Auto Stop, a warm garage observation
The underground parking lot is heated in my apartment building. Since the start of Winter, the indoor temperature has ranged from 14 to 20 degrees Celsius (57 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit), and the tendency is to scale according to the outdoor temperature. Since my HCH-II isn't exposed to extreme overnight temperatures, I have no call to have a block heater and I don't bother to modify the air vents to conserve engine heat.
With the recent spell of warmer weather and the car starting off in the morning at near room temperature from the garage, I have found that I can get one or two brief instances of auto stop. But, in a short while, as the outdoor temperature, which is colder, starts to influence the car, auto stop will no longer activate until the car is fully warmed up.

I would still block your grill, so that it stays warm. Just imagine how cold the air is when your moving at higher speeds as opposed to standing still. You'll instantly see the benefit.

your cars thermometer isnt continuously variable. just throwing it in where it seems relevent. ask your dealer for a "temp sensor logic" printout next time your there...actually kind of interesting
