Wow. They like the Electric-assisted Power Steering on the Si Sedan (Ref.), but dislike it on the Hybrid. It should be the same darn thing!

They compared a leather-equipped HCH with the Fit? Wouldn't it have made more sense to cost compare with a cloth-equipped Civic? Also, in the controlled test they showed a 47 vs. 36 MPG difference in mileage, yet they used the uncontrolled mileages of 29 vs. 36 for the cost comparison.

I guess these folks have no clue what constitutes a real compparison!

They compared a $19k Fit with a $27k HCH.

They could do a $15k Fit and a $23k HCH -- same diff.

If I had to buy tomorrow the Fit would be at the top of my list. Without the $2100 tax credit, it's hard not to look at the Fit and the coming Insight sedan hatchback.

It's a nice article, but they are very wrong about the 0-60 time for the HCH2. I measured 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) to 11.2 s, with 1 foot rollout.

Yet another Edmunds article knocking hybrids... I've been a regular reader of Edmunds for years and I find it a shame that they have such an obvious bias against hybrids. It must be nice to drive a borrowed car every day and never have to pay for gas yourself--I probably wouldn't be interested in hybrids in that case either.

I'm curious to see what they think of the new CRZ when it comes out since it is the first "performance" oriented hybrid. I think it's safe to say they will whine about it while reminiscing about how great the gas CRX was.

This is another case of hybrid bashing, using the stupid tactic of comparing apples to oranges and declaring that apples are superior.

The Fit and the Civic are different cars, which is why Honda makes both. One major difference I noticed right away is that I can't fit into the Fit. Only people 5'10" or shorter have enough leg room. The Civic, however, with its 42" of leg room fits a full-sized American guy just fine.

(Note: expect to see a post shortly from someone claiming to be 6'5" tall and 280 lbs., saying that he's perfectly comfortable in his Honda Fit. It never fails.)

Bottom line is that the two cars are different in size, features and price. Again, that's why the SAME company makes BOTH of them -- each appeals to a different segment of the market.

I hope to see the comparo soon between the Hummer H3 and the Mini Cooper. I'm planning to buy a new car, and I'm considering both of them, so I really want to know which one is better.

And I need an automotive writer to tell me.

Re: Comparison Test: 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid vs. 2009 Honda Fit Sport

I test drove both the 09 Fit and the 09 Civic Hybrid. At 6'5" and 250lbs, the fit was too hard to be comfortable to sit in for more than 20 minutes as I am really long legged and the civic has more legroom ( I did sit for an hour in both the Fit Sport with traction and a leather Civic Hybrid - did not like the leather feel.) I have driven a 07 civic hybrid over 1100 miles and was not uncomfortable at any time ( even though I was worried that the parking brake might be in the way, it was not an issue ).

I bought an 09 Civic w/o navi and w/o leather. I have upped the tire pressure to 40 lbs and added a homelink autodimm with compass mirror ( from e-bay using the honda wiring for the Honda autodimm mirror ).

I have friends with Fits and other with Hybrid Civics - both are nice cars. The civic does much better in town mileage wise but the Fit can hold up to the civic hybrid on the highway.
