Default Finding Mobil 1 0W-20

I thought I'd share this in case anyone is trying to find Mobil 1 0W20 motor oil.

Since I only put about 6000 miles on my 06 HCH2 annually, I change oil once a year. Last Jan, I was able to find Mobil 1 0W20 at Wal-Mart, and took the oil to the dealer for the work. Since Jan is rolling around again, I've been looking and haven't been able to find the oil any place (in fact, the 0W20 "shelf space" at Wal Mart disappeared a few weeks ago). So I decided to call Mobil to find out if (1) they actually still made Mobil 1 0W20 and (if yes), (2) how can I find some.

Mobil told me yes, they definitely make it and that most auto parts stores can simply order it. When I asked for specific store names, they told me that Auto Zone and Murray's can, as many of them do quite regularly. He then gave me the part number (at the end of this message) and I had the UPC Code (also at the end) on half-filled bottle, so I was ready to call some stores.

Long story short(er), two Auto Zones and one Murrays told me they couldn't order it. What was strange is that one of the Auto Zones told me it came up on his screen with a price ($5.19 qt), but he was restricted from ordering it and he didn't know why ("never saw that before"). So I called Mobil again and they told me that was crazy, as any of them can order it. However, he asked where I lived and then gave me a few nearby cities that had small "oil companies" that definitely had it. I picked one about 10 miles away, called them, and they had it in stock for $30.55 a case. I went today to pick it up and am now ready for the next oil change.

I just wanted to share this and provide the following info in case some folks want to use Mobil 1 0W20 but can't find it. Here is Mobil's phone number, the oil part number and UPC Code. If your local store can't order it, you can always call Mobil and hopefully they can help.

Part Number: 98FS29
UPC: 0 71924 44968 8
Mobil phone #: 800-ASK-MOBIL (800-275-6624)

I ran into the same problem here in Indianapolis. I went to about 12 stores and they all said they could not get it for me. Wal*mart had it, but I wont buy from them so I ordered amsoil online.

its rated better than mobile 1 and its made in America. I was happy to spend the extra money if it meant that I didnt have to go to walmart.

We always change our oil when the meter reads approx. 40% on our Civic, use 0w-20 Mobil 1, a Mobil 1 oil filter, and only use 3 qts. instead of the 3.4 qts recommended leaving the dip stick showing just below the full oil line. This seems to work very well for us. We have always had many trouble free miles using Mobil 1 products in our vehicles. We purchase at a variety of auto part stores in the Chicagoland area.

My local walmart stopped stocking it as well. I happened to be looking in the clearance section and saw that the rest of their 0w20 was on sale for $3/Qt. I cleaned them out. BTW, mine takes 4.0 to bring it to the full line with filter change. I talked to my local carquest and they said they could special order it as well.
