Hey y'all test drivin a 2010 Hch with 17k- any tips?
My wife already has a Prius I currently drive a Lexus 430 which has been the ride of my life but I commute 80 miles a day and pay nearly $125 in tolls in Miami.
I am surprised how much negative "never Honda again" chatter I have found while researching this car, and am more than just a little nervous with all the horror stories relating to battery issues and mpg loss.
But I persist because there are a fair number of passionate folk who seem delighted... How can I join the ranks?
Could you start me on 3 things?
1. Please let me know where the best guides on this site are for the 2010 model
2. This car is from a fleet, could be a rental... Any HCH specific trouble spots I should look for?
3. (for Floridians) I live in Broward and work in Dade- who knows how to mechanically (and software) treat this car right? I am getting it from CarMax and will take it to a dealer or a Indy shop... Just do not want rookies fouling what seems to be a sophisticated system. I would rather pay a good tech than roll the dice on price!

I have everybody at work looking to buy one. My mileage is so outstanding and my experience is so positive everyone in the office wants one.
With that said, I'd avoid a fleet vehicle with everything I can muster.

I have heard all the "formal rental car" stories everything from driving it like it's stolen to taking a dump in the back seat... I had a 1989 Corolla that was fleet AND sweet only reason we unloaded it was it had over 120k and it had been hit so bad in an accident the trunk would not close. But I do admit it was low miles... This will be a 2010 with under 20k mileage, pictures look good interior/exterior wise but is there anything I can check for mechanical problems specific to the model? Under the hood or while test driving?

I think the kool-aid drinkers here are posting happy times for two main reasons...
1) Their cars are running fine. One year ago, I was one of them as my car was a champ for 4.5 years. Today, I am in the "never again" camp. I will never ever buy another honda auto as long as I live after all that's happened and the way I've been treated by this car company.
2) They need the prices to stay firm to unload them if necessary. If the mainstream media gets wind of the level of collapse of this technology followed by the avoidance of Honda to honor warranties and deal with the situation, you will not be able to give this car away.
Personally I would suggest staying away from Honda. There are less risky ways to get solid mileage.

@Wood511
I am actually looking to buy a used hch2 for my daughter. that will be 2 HCH 's in the family and am not worried at all cause if my 07 recovered fine by just following good advice then I can do the same to another hch. I just need to find someone in my area thats doing badly with one so I can get it for a good deal.

Hi Kevin
I looked hard and wide for a used HCH2,but all where priced way up there. I settled on a 06 Prius premium pkg. with 19,500 kilometers on it .Purchase Aug. 2010. It has been a great car as well. I prefer the feel of the HCH however. Both give great FE! H
