Michelin Energy Saver Tire vs Goodyear Fuel Max Tire

Re: Michelin Energy Saver Tire vs Goodyear Fuel Max Tire
I'm leaning to the Michelin Energy Saver A/S, price and all. I find it somewhat irritating that the EP20 might just be rebadged Bridgestone Insignia SE200, at least judging by the tread pattern. Might not have to decide till next spring though, our snow tires are stretching our OEM's life.

The cost difference among the LRR tires we're discussing is negligible over the course of 40-60K miles. Buy the best! From what I've read, I'm leaning toward thinking the Michelin Energy Saver is the best bet.

Re: Michelin Energy Saver Tire vs Goodyear Fuel Max Tire
I myself was looking at the michelin energy savers but decided to go with michelin hydroedge(green x) instead. Tire Rack test showed they fell short of the energy savers by 2 mpg, but Hydroedge tires are really good wet, dry, snow tire and have a 90,000 mile tread warranty while the energy savers have no stated tread life warranty just a limited warranty which makes it difficult to estimate useful service life compared to other tires. I settled for the tire i thought would give me excellent performance and fuel economy while providing a better ride(see Tire Rack survey of all season tires) for what i hope will be nearly 100,000 miles. My stock Dunlop 31 tires were 35,000 treadwear and i got 53,000 miles before hitting 3/32 tread left. I really wanted the energy saver tires but wasnt sure they would last more than 50-70 thousand miles. Getting the Hydroedge tires installed tomorrow am.

Roger, you make some good points. Keep us updated on your experiences with them. I have nearly 50k on my Dunlops and am at 4/32 w/ them. I'm still trying to decide if those Energy Savers will be my next choice.

Re: Michelin Energy Saver Tire vs Goodyear Fuel Max Tire
Got Michelin hydro edge tires installed and put 300 miles on them this week so far. I did a test run for FE on my old Dunlops last week over a 46 mile commute to work during a cold 31 degree morning using cruise control the entire way to make it less subjective and the same test on these Hydro edge tires. I did get 3 mpg less on these new Michelins (47 vs. 44) than the Dunlops. Being fair though, these were brand new tires with 11/32 tread not worn out 3/32 Dunlops which will automatically lower fuel mileage some but slowly get better as tires wear and get smaller. Im guessing if these tires had same tread depth as my old tires, FE would be pretty close. Overall these Hydro edge tires feel great are not noisy at all. Ride is Very comfortable at 40 psi cold tire pressure. Feels more like 30 psi. I keep checking my tire pressure thinking i've got low pressure because the ride is so soft. I will try to update how the tires and fuel economy perform every couple months, which is about 2000 miles a month for me. Total paid...$550 out door (tires, tax, installation, lifetime rotation and balance)

Re: Michelin Energy Saver Tire vs Goodyear Fuel Max Tire
Hey guys, after reading which winter tyres were preffered I plumbed for the Nokian WR G2. They cost me just over £58 each plus £15 each for fitting and balance.
They are still quite young but, so far show no problems and the mpg seems the same.
