From the guy's reaction, I reckon this gadget is also a mileage killer
=$50 + fun+ extra fuel wasted
or... get a scangauge $160 + fuel saved + ?.

That's very, very clever. I'd be half-tempted to get one just for occasional amusement. It would definitely lose something due to the CVT effect! Great find.

My friend suggested mounting speakers under the hood and then using this for the noise generator for hybrids and electric cars.
