Toyota Prius having these Battery Issues?

Toyota Prius having these Battery Issues?
I have been looking at Toyota Prius blogs and I can't seem to find "any" threads describing battery issues similar to what we are seeing on the HCH II.
....and there are a lot more Toyota Prius' on the road than HCHII's...
Is Toyota just that much better at making hybrid batteries that last longer?

Actually, it is Panasonic that makes the better prismatic cells in the 2004-2010 Prius which have had a very small number of failed batteries at about 100k miles. The battery cells in the 2001-2003 Prius were similar to the cells in your HCH and they have had some problems. There is a company, ReInVolt, that rebuilds the earlier batteries with the newer cells (salvaged, tested and balanced). I don't know if they could rebuild Honda battery.

I hate to say it but yes Toyota is just that good. They specialize in manufacturing high quality toyota parts such as hybrid batteries last longer. I would definitely recommend a Prius.

Even if they failed, it's how Toyota deals with the issue that will set them apart - or not. Honda has generally ignored the failed batteries here in VA. They just shrug their shoulders when you mention the warranty that was supposed to cover them.

I agree. We've been buying Honda for over 30 years, our latest an 06 Civic Hybrid. It's still with a family member: has the latest software update, and is still having frequent recalibration episodes. IMO, Honda has shot themselves in the foot with their response to battery problems.

Re: Toyota Prius having these Battery Issues?
It is not the quality of the battery packs that is the issue -- rather it's the design of the entire Hybrid system. It is very easy for Toyota's system to always keep the batteries at a healthy state of charge, while Honda's system has run into some problems -- specifically on hot days in city traffic.
BTW -- I am a Honda guy with a HCH II -- I am just saying it is not as advanced as the Toyota, Ford and Nissan systems.
Still a good car though....
