So I haven't seen much in higher mileage Altima Hybrids so I figured I would start a thread and see how other NAH owners are doing with their cars.

I have a 2007 model with over 185k miles. I just replaced the battery pack last week. It is still one of the smoothest easiest to drive cars I have had and I still love driving it. Mileage is in low 30's these days with mixed city hwy but can still sometimes get 600+ miles per tank.

I have done regular maintenance on a fairly aggressive schedule with 0-20w synth throughout myself (except two or three dealership changes that for some reason used 5-30.. Every 30k service was done at dealership or hybrid specialist so HEV transmission services and such were done there.

Overall no major issues except a leaky oil filter housing.

Cosmetically doing well with only small normal scuffs and dings, and rock chips. Interior doing ok as I upgraded to leather seat covers.

Anyhow any other updates and issues would be appreciated as I am really hoping to keep this one for a few more years so 200k plus should be in the cards. Thanks for your input.

 

I have 2007 NAH with 125K. Other than normal wear and tear, I have had to replace the foot brake switch and harness and right rear wheel bearing assembly.

What was the indication for changing the battery pack?

 

I recently had an opportunity to evaluate an Altima hybrid pack out of a 2007 with 182K miles here in AZ.

The pack is completely and utterly destroyed. Even though a cell hasn't failed, and all modules hold voltage, their capacities range from 12-43% of rated with an average of 21%. This is AFTER reconditioning. Before reconditioning, they were about 1/2 that.

This is hands-down the absolute worst pack I have ever seen out of a hybrid using the toyota prismatic modules (prius, camry, lexus gs450h and others).

This is identical to what I see in the Camry. The Camry/Altima are MUCH harder on their batteries than the Gen2 Prius.

I recommend that when (not if) your battery takes a crap, you shove it off onto the big rebuilders like Dorman, Greentec or any of they Hybrid Shop affiliates. If you rely on a local small battery rebuilder, you will decimate him OR you will pay a core charge because your battery is fried.

YMMV in other regions, but in Phoenix, that's the case.

First indication that the battery is starting to go to pot, was that my mileage started to slowly drift into the high 20s. At first I thought it was my tires, but it seemed apparent it was too big of a drop. Then, honestly, the next indicator was all the error lights going up on the dash, and the car driving very differently then it's normal smooth self. Only the ICE was running, and it was definitely noticeable. Still got mid 20s as far as mileage went well my hybrid system was down.

The error lights included but was not exclusively the hybrid system light, this service engine soon light, as well as several other lights including the electronic brake control and VDC warning lights. something else too, that I can't recall now.

 

Interesting observations on the Camry and Altima hybrid batteries as opposed to the smaller Prius batteries. If I recall correctly, the Camry and the Altima use the same battery case to house all of these battery cells, while the Prius has less cells and a slightly different place. Could it just be the design of the case and how well they cool off? Just wondering aloud.
The technician that came to work on my car, does far more Prius replacements then Altimas and Camrys. But he has quite a bit of confidence in the Altima and Camry rebuilds that he does as he sources all of his own replacement parts. Anyways, with a one-year warranty on it for the cost I paid, I think it'll be fine. I didn't go to the reconditioning route only because I wanted a new pack in my car immediately so my car could drive back to normal. But I suppose if there were a core charge involved, I would have reconsidered. In my case, there was no core charge, I just traded him mine and the one that he rebuilt has been tested and retested so, we were all good. Knock on wood.

 

So two months after he change with a refurbished Hybrid battery pack, I experienced a Hybrid system error. The tech came out and got everything running, choosing to replace the battery pack at no charge with one that was in better shape. Noticeable difference immediately as this newer pack kept the car in EV mode longer and improved mileage over the next thousand miles by about 7% with no change in my driving style (fairly aggressive) I was told this pack had newer cells with a higher voltage rating and should last me far beyond the warranty period but since it was a warranty replacement for my other refurb, the warranty period wouldn't change. Makes sense. Car drives almost like new, more so then the way it felt after the previous replacement anyhow. Fingers crossed.

 

SO... its been half a year since i started this thread and now my car has exceeded the 200k mark. Here are some of my observations...

Current Mileage ranges from 30.5mpg-33mpg which is still very reasonable for my driving style and non-LRR tires.

Starting to think I finally need to replace the front shocks as they are still original.

Gas Engine starts a bit rougher than before so i think its time for new plugs and timing.

Car still runs nice and quiet on the highways (around 64db in cabin)

AC Fan is seems to hum.

no strange noises and no loose parts after all this time.

Probably need to replace my remote soon though as it is more worn out than anything in the car.

 

Back to a Hybrid again.

I bought a 2007 Altima Hybrid in May of 2007 - so ten years ago.

I sold the car in 2011 to my daugther and they now have 90,000 miles with very little problems - still runs great.

After owning two Subaru Outbacks I decided to buy a 2017 Highlander Hybrid XLE last week so this is my first post to Greenhybrid in at least six years.

 

Problems at 130,679 miles/10 years 4 months:
1. Replaced rear struts ($433).
2. Replaced left rear wheel bearing ($433)
Tech recommended replace front struts in next year ($1,119)
He said HV battery seems to be performing near original capacity.
