"Now, within the next 5 seconds, you need to floor and release the accellerator pedal 5 times."

For me this part was giving me trouble until I figured out you just have to be QUICK on the pumps.

If i had to guess ... (that was my case) ...

The gas cap was one of the very first things I checked, and nope that wasn't it. BUT I did try the nifty accelerator process again and it worked! Thank you all! You're right - it just takes several tries and patience

Now for my next question: I have cleared the code, which happened to be P0128 (THERMSTAT FNCTN), which according to further googling had a TSB for the 2007 Altima (mine). Does this mean that it's really not an issue? Do I assume all is well and wait for the light to come back on before declaring there might be a problem?

It's been 11 years ago since I posted this.

Glad to see it's still helping.

I sold my Altima Hybrid to my daughter and her husband in 2011 and they're still driving it - close to 100,000 miles and working fine.

I'm now driving a 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

I totally agree... I love my Altima, esp because it's a 'Hybird'... If I get a second vehicle, it'll be another 'Hybird'. . Good on gas, from SD to LA multiple times, I got to say I'm pretty impressed.
