Recent unexpected problems 2007 NAH

My 2007 NAH with 102K miles had a couple of problems show up recently.

First, the left rear wheel bearing assembly had to replaced. It was making a loud humming sound where the pitch increased as the speed increased. Unlike the old days, you cannot just replace the bearings. You have to replace the whole assembly. $500 with labor. Second, there is a small leak on the valve cover gasket.

BTW, I use aCar on my android phone and have entered every tank and every repair. My most recent lifetime statistics are 32.3 mpg measured. Max mpg on one tank 40.6. Mileage has been consistent since the day I got the car.

Cost of ownership, purchase price + fuel+ repairs has been: .45 per mile. Do not regret buying this car.

I have the same problem but it is the left front wheel bearing assembly. Looking at the price of wheel assembly 55-110 dollars. Is it the labor that is killer or is it the part?

Two and half years later (30,00 miles) I have had to replace AGAIN the left rear wheel bearing assembly. Any ideas about what causes this one wheel to be problematic?
