So did anyone here ever bother installing a fan for the vent behind the backseat to the battery? If they did, does it work well? Also, how did you wire it and mount it? I'm just interested because I feel the need to do it.

No, but I am definitely interested in a cooling fan and a heating fan to heat the battery in winter.

do you think it's really necessary for a battery heater? A heating fan would probably consume more electricity than any additional savings you would get from a quicker recharge.

I'd use a solar panel for power.

This is from the shop manual:

System Description

• The HV ECU monitors rises in the battery temperature through the four temperature sensors in the HV battery module. Then, the hybrid vehicle control ECU steplessly actuates the cooling fan under duty cycle control, in order to maintain the temperature of the HV battery module within the specified range.
• While the air conditioning system is operating to cool the cabin, if the HV battery module temperature is within a normal range, the hybrid vehicle control ECU turns the battery cooling fan OFF or changes the fan speed to low speed. The purpose of this control is to give priority to cooling down the cabin, which also provides cooling to the battery module through the intake duct located on the center of the rear package tray

Here's another image from the manual. There appears to be actually two fans - one for the battery and another for the converter.
