That's what he charged me for, anyway. Oh, and he cleaned some dog hair out of the cooling fan.

Also checked the 12v which he said was good, but was dated 2012. It's an AC Delco 770 CCA (Not common to buy).

$225? If he really did all that, that's a bargain. I would charge more. I would be curious about what kind of load he put on them. A short term load needs to be about 60A to have any real meaning.

Did he give you a printout of any of the test results?

Could a collective deterioration be possible? How can you tell if they are ALL deteriorating equally without deviation from cell to cell?

Anything is possible; however, Toyota packs in Toyota cars don't behave like that at all - ever. I can't say how Toyota packs behave in GM cars though. it's possible the battery management is p1ss poor, and other conditions could contribute to it.

I have heard that despite the same battery modules and cells, GM's can operate for some time after which a Prius would exhibit the red triangle of death.

That is not a good thing. Can <> should.

You are likely seeing the outcome of that behavior in your own vehicle - poor and intermittent function.

Now, for the 3rd time... Test results?

tiktok the individual 6-cell module looks like this in the link.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/13-TOYOTA-PR...JU91nN&vxp=mtr

If you look at the shiny metal you will see 6 "pleats" Those are the individual cells. 40 modules * 6 = 240 cells.

If any ONE of them is bad... the whole pack goes down.

S Keith is very knowledgeable in this area. Everything I have seen from him is accurate. Usually more accurate than my posts.

To remove the pack and then remove eighty 80 attached nuts to those threaded positive and negative studs in the pictures ( WITHOUT shorting something out ) in my opinion more than a $225 job. at least for me.

If it is even getting close to setting P061B it is exceeding the values S Keith has posted under LOAD, vehicle load.

If many many more of these Panasonic built 20% owned by Toyota packs in Toyota, Lexus, GM , and some more had been built, I was going to retire and do pack refurbishment.

My test cycler would have subjected every module to extensive voltage and current charging and discharging. Further I had planned to do extensive thermal imaging of each individual sub-cell to sort modules into 4 classes.

My test cycle would have been more than 24 hours, charging and discharging, doing computer analyzed voltage and current and thermal measurements.

I appreciate everyone trying to help. I wish I had closer battery techs to help. I've spent so much on this dumb vehicle and there is so little help available. No wonder they are cheap on the used market!

Anyway, all I got from my battery tech in Charleston was a photo of the codes. Not a lot of help for here.

Oh, and I'm sure he only cleaned the modules, not the cells.

Thank you HH.

Given the rough description of your process, I essentially do everything but temp measurements; however, I take precision IR measurements, which relate to temperature. When you keep variations within 0.3mΩ across 6 cells/28 modules, you can be confident there are no serious temp issues even if all of the deviation is within 1 cell.

My data gathering ability is way less robust than I like, but I'm working on that.

I can fully recondition a Prius pack in 19 hours - 12 cycles. Yes, I'm moving a lot of electrons in both directions at the same time - typically 2000W each. RAWR!
