Come a long ways with 09 repo Yukon hybrid

The repo is alive and being driven everyday!
backstory- i had an opportunity to purchase a 2009 repoed Yukon hybrid 124k miles for 2k
-it had been involved in a collision on the left side
-knew it hadn't run in at least 8 months but didn't know the last time it was run
Late november 2017
take possession of Yukon put it on a trailer and send it to my mechanic
told him to replace the doors and sensors and take it to gm dealer to clear codes (used doors from Tahoe hybrid salvage)- $500
- gm dealer says cleared codes won't crank
- says we need new hybrid control module $750
- receive module, still won't crank, test hybrid batteriy pack said it's bad need new one
- at this point I tell them we'll do the battery but we need to get this running for $5000
- takes 2 months to get battery from gm
- they install new battery, it cranks but runs really rough
- my mechanic takes it back now it won't crank
-take back to dealer, they say hybrid battery is run down
- they also fund evidence of sugar in gas tank
- dealer says we need to have tank/ fuel lines cleaned and injectors and fuel pump replaced
- cleaned tank and lines replaced fuel pump, instead of replacing injectors ($1000), opted to have injectors rebuilt for $30/each- total $240 plus $400 for rest-$640
-after wrangling with dealer about battery, they work with gm to get a new one
- take back to dealer install new battery and she's alive
- test drive- runs really rough, engine lights every where, call on star for codes, also terrible groan going into auto stop.
- apparently the previous owner hardly changed the oil, oil filter is stopped up barely letting any oil through new filter oil change
- back rotors completely gone, calipers too needed replaced $400
- car detailed $200
- no lights, driving nice!! Evaporate vent valve needs replaced

basically $8000 to get running- plus 2k purchase
10k invested, and it books for $16.6k

thanks for everybody's help here!

I joined the forum late but saw your story. Good work! Did GM ever tell you why the first replacement battery was bad? Why were they reluctant to work with you on getting a 2nd replacement? How is gas mileage?

I’m not sure what happened with the first battery, I think either the dealer kept trying to crank it when the engine wasn’t running well at all because of all the sludge and messed up fuel system from the sugar, or my mechanic kept trying to crank it till they ran it down.

Mpg is 20.8 with mostly highway driving

drmarvin I am curious to see if you still have the vehicle and if so how it is doing for you? i suspect that the engine would not last very long if it had been abused so badly.
