The oil pressuer sending units have been known to go bad on some Chevy Small blocks. It is hard to get to, but a hose and gage will verify if this is a sending unit or something major. If the oil pressure did go to zero, the hydraulic lifters would raise quite a clatter. You would not have gone far before lots of noise from under the hood from lifters.

Now if there are any "clever" Chevy techs out there, listen up. "Plan B" way to get an oil pressure gage on the small block would be the 2-bolt oil cooler adapter/bypass block off just above the oil filter. A 1/8 inch pipe thread is too big but a 1/16 pipe tap and a 1/8 inch tube fitting adapter will do fine. Many oil pressure gages are 1/8 tube. The trick is the "right" 1/16 male pipe to 1/8 tube fitting.

A Parker brand A-Lok fitting part number 2MSC1N or Parker CPI fitting number 2-1 FBZ works great. NOTE: 1 these come in Brass, 316 Stainless, and plain Steel. Found Brass on Amazon for $5 NOTE: 2 They can take way more than 1 PSI stainless and 6 Brass. The Amazon pressure rating is way low.

The trick is getting or making this little 2-bolt adapter so you don't hack up the customer's adapter.

Update- again, thanks so much to all of you. The good news is that after the initial scare on the oil pressure, we've had virtually no issues. I say virtually because, after discovering we had a nail in one tire and screw in the other, we found out that the tire pressure sensors on the front are reversed-driver sensor to passenger tire, etc. but that is no biggie.

So I can say, we just rolled over 133,000 miles, have been on multiple 2 hour each way trips to the city, and one 9 hour drive each way to Missouri, and we've had NO problems and LOVE the Tahoe!!! Yay!!!!

Yes!! Very happy!! I do love my Tahoe- although I am not super picky and uptight when it comes to mechanics and overall performance. I am interested in: does everything work?? Is it gonna break down on me?? And so far, at 145,000, we are going strong. It does need to have the intake manifold gasket replaced, due to a sudden loss of acceleration and shuddering and jerking if started and immediately driven in cold weather under 45 degrees or so. My mechanic says that it will get worse, and it has. It started about 140,000 miles. But to me- this is normal. It is expected of a mechanical beast with working and moving parts- just like our bodies, those parts wear out. My concern with it was the hybrid aspect. I have had ZERO issues with the electrical or hybrid aspect of it. Gets decent gas mileage, not as good as I'd hoped, about 20avg. MPG has gotten worse with the intake manifold problem. Overall, I'm super happy. Would I rather have a brand new one?? You bet- can I afford one?? No way. So this was a great compromise on affordability, performance, and value.
