installed the volant intake today

Re: installed the volant intake today
First fill-up after installing Volant, also did Oil Change with Mobil 1 5W30 Extended Performance oil and oil filter, added zMAX Engine and Fuel Formulas. Driving approx. 85% city/15% highway, using lots of AC and being fairly cautious on the throttle (harder with nice sound from engine), 87 Octane "PureMax" ETHANOL-FREE gas from Spinx:
18.1 MPG (hand-calculated/recorded on Fuelly)
I think that it is safe to say that claims of 4 MPG increase are largely BS. I will post the next few fill-ups and see if there is any improvement; if not I may post the Volant for sale.

3rd Fill-Up after installing Volant was: 21.7 MPG, 5% City Driving, AC Use, carrying 4 passengers, some Highway Cruising 66 MPH, but quite a few hard acceleration passes, and average MPH around 72 MPH. This is the best MPG that I have gotten to date. Perhaps the Volant likes the highway best?

2nd Fill-Up after installing Volant was: 13.1 MPG, 100% City Driving, AC use, trilling to go light on the throttle, 87 Octane E10 from Exxon. This was about a quarter-tank fill-up, so not as accurate as full tank fill-up.

I have done a total of 19 Fuel Fill-Ups since I got the Tahoe Hybrid. See breakdown:
OEM Air Box/Filter: Average of first 11 fill-ups=17.98 MPG
Volant Cold Air Intake/PowerCore Filter: Average of latest 8 fill-ups=17.59
Best MPG that I ever got (95% highway) was 23.94 MPG with the Volant CAI
I am debating whether or not to put the stock air box back on and sell the Volant.
Pros for the Volant:
-very good MPG on the highway
-GREAT engine sound, better throttle response (at least perceived as better)
-very long air filter service life
Cons against:
-does not seem to increase MPG in the city, and may actually hurt city MPG
-perceived increase in engine performance may promote more hard accelerations
-would probably sell Volant at a loss
Please feel free to attack or comment at will...

Re: installed the volant intake today
I have about 40K miles on my Volant install and I have mixed feelings. At first I was certain it increased MPG, then I was certain it decreased MPG, now I just don't know.
Bottom line is there are too many other variables that come into play, the ambient temperature, ethanol adulterated gasoline, more miles on the vehicle, possibly worn spark plugs, Tire inflation, number of passengers, Etc. Etc. Etc.
One thing is for sure, under acceleration it is louder which can encourage pushing the gas pedal even more-lol.
I'm not certain I would install it again but it was an experiment.

Re: installed the volant intake today
Just removed the Volant and reinstalled the OEM Airbox. Can now say with some certainty that the Volant lowers MPG in mostly city driving.
