New engine for 2010 yukon hybrid
I have a 2010 yukon 4wd denali hybrid w/ 102,000 miles. I have had three issues with AFM lifters going bad in the past year, and have now replaced all AFM lifters and put in the redesigned VLOM. Oil consumption has been very high too, and my extended warranty company is willing to cover new pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, etc., and I will also get a valve job and AFM deflector to fix everything likely to be wrong with the engine (~$300 out of pocket). Or I can spend $2400 and get a new GM engine.
We really like the truck, but have been frustrated with the time in the shop primarily from lifter problems. I would think that if it doesn't give us much more trouble, we would keep it for another 3 years or so. What do you think - rebuild the one have or get a new one? Will the $2500 pay for itself?
thanks,
chip

Re: New engine for 2010 yukon hybrid
If you didn't use synthetic oil from its early life, a new engine and start using synthetic oil is worth it. Otherwise, the engine will die a slow death with lots of parts to replace. My 2009 only used synthetic extended performance Mobil 1 and lasted 195k miles when I traded it for a new escalade. I'm sure the new owner is benefiting from the extensive care I did for it.
