Default Remote Start & Fuel Efficiency

Does it affect it?? I would think it does. But since the key isn't turned on, I don't know.

Yes, you're idling the engine, but it would be about the same as if you went out early and started it with the key to get it warm before driving.

It runs the heater and seat warmers too, so the electrical draw is higher than it would be if you started manually and did not turn the seat warmers on high.

Oh - that's a different question.

I don't know, but since it is supposed to be calculated by measuring the actual fuel consumption, I would suspect so. I

I would think so too. But since the key isn't turned on, I wonder.

Yes, yes it does. I did an experiment.

At the last stoplight before my house, I set the trip odometer, fuel consumption, and Avg. Fuel Economy to zero.

Before turning the Tahoe off, I recorded:
Miles: 0.5
Fuel: 0.0
Avg: 36.5

This morning, I used remote start to warm up the Tahoe about 10 minutes before leaving. It was 30 degrees outside.

After putting the key in, I recorded:
Miles: 0.5
Fuel: 0.0
Avg: 11.7...11.6...11.5...11.4 - the Avg. Fuel Economy was dropping as I wrote.

So yes, using remote start and idling the Tahoe 2-mode Hybrid will affect the calculated Avg. Fuel Economy, even though the key is not in/on.

Other fun facts: I always back into my driveway due to the angle of the alley and position of my fence. When I go to my alley, the Avg. was 60.5 becuase once I pulled off the main road, I was driving in all electric. As owners know, when you put the 2-mode in reverse, the ICE kicks on. The Avg. economy dropped form 60.5 to 36.5 while backing up about 30 feet to park.
