Timing chain replacement
When i was driving my 09 tahoe 6.0 hybrid home one day it just died while driving. Took to dealership and they said it was the hybrid battery and charged 4800 cad for new one. They installed and then said timing chain jumped several spots and bent some valves and want another $9000 to fix. I said screw you! Anyone have any recommendations on replacing timing chain and possible valve solutions? Thanks |
Re: Timing chain replacement
Sounds like the timing went while driving. NOT the battery.
They should take the price of the battery off the engine repair. The heads have to come off to fix the valves. It's a major job |
Re: Timing chain replacement
Strange that the timing chain would skip...how many miles on this engine? I would be concerned there was some other cause for the crank to cam timing getting so out of whack.

Re: Timing chain replacement
220,000 kms on it. Where can I get info on taking off the heads and replacing the chain myself? I love my Tahoe so I got to get her up and running again. I have a three year warranty on new battery and it's been sitting for one.

Re: Timing chain replacement
Thanks. I found timing chain info but can't find any resources on safely disconnecting the 300v system.

Re: Timing chain replacement
Passenger side of middle row seat has an access cover.
Disconnect the 12V battery first. Then remove the plastic trim cover on the passenger side of battery cover. Leave the larger carpeted cover on... unless you want to inspect the inlet grate for battery airflow. There is an Orange manual disconnect. A two step process to remove and install. Slide latch UP. Then pull back 90 degrees and remove. To install, plug in, flip latch UP. Slide down. To do engine service, nothing more than disconnecting 12V is really required. |

ClintKent - If you end up doing this, take some pics and post up what you find. Would be curious to see what happened. |
