Traded in my 2011 Prius for a Ford C-max Energi
 

Hello Eric, I wanted a Plug-In Hybrid with more EV miles than the Prius and less cost than the Volt. I currently get 26+ EV miles with the air off and 23 with the air at 73 F. I am getting 14.3% of my EV miles from regenerated energy thanks to the braking coach which has enabled me to increasingly recapture 100% of the car’s kinetic energy. My MPGe is 122. It takes approximately 6 hours to fully charge a 100% depleted battery at 120 V. My gas engine mileage is about 46 mpg. I calculated that the cost of electricity to run my car is equivalent to paying $0.90/gallon of gas in my Prius. I have real-time pricing from Com Ed which is dirt cheap at night. Average energy costs at night run about $0.02 /KWH plus $0.032/KWH in other charges. That’s $0.39/23 miles driven and that doesn’t factor in regenerated miles . Not too shabby! My smart phone and PC internet are awesome features which allow me to monitor and control charging in my home via a satellite link. As well as view calculations like driving efficiency and CO2 and gas savings. I can’t yet speak for the reliability of this car, but my impressions of the initial quality, features, and efficiency are that it blows me away. And I previously owned 3 Prius’s. This car is better in every category except gas engine fuel efficiency. I did not think Ford was capable of making such a great quality, feature-rich, highly efficient, green car. I will follow up with another message in about a year. It is made in Detroit if that matters to you.

Where abouts are you if you're on Con Ed?
We've been thinking about getting a c-max for our company, have a good lease option with a local dealer in CT.
Any updates you'd care to share?

The cost of electricity has gone up to $0.025/KWH at night and $0.05/KWH in other charges. Thast's only if you charge between midnight and 6 AM. That's also the greenest time to charge. So far my Energi is performing well. With much colder weather the EV miles are dropping and the gas engine has kicked in frequently to supply heat. My lifetime AVG MPG is down to 148 and dropping. Correction of orignal post: it only takes 5 hours to recharge a fully depleted battery.

UPDATE 11/2015:
My current mileage is 19600 of which 16300 are EV miles. My current hybrid fuel efficiency is 40 mpg. My current combined mpg is 194.6 mpg and my mpge is 147 at 95% EV ratio for the previous month. These figures are far superior to Ford's specs which, because Ford overrated the mileage on the window sticker, they sent a check for $700 to me so I wouldn't ***** about the exaggeration of fuel efficiency. I found that to be odd because my mileage beats their new, corrected mileage (mpge) by 50%. The EPA testers must be lead feet because I drive fairly normally. My current EV range is now down to 24 in the Summer, Fall, and Spring and 18 max in the dead of Winter. I now use 5.0 - 5.7 kWh's to fully charge a dead battery using a 240V Level 2 charger. It now takes 2.1 hours to fully charge in the warmer weather. Ford's web site calculates my CO2 and gas fuel savings versus my last Prius which I rated at 47 mpg. In the past 2.3 years I have saved over 20,000 pounds of CO2 and 285 gallons of gas by driving my Energi instead of my Prius. I bought a Scan Gauge II for the top of the dash which has specific gauges some genius (I think it was the same dude that programmed the Scan Gauge for the Prius) programmed for the C-Max Energi like battery temp, water temp, voltage, and per cent charged up all 4 of which can be displayed on the same screen in any choice of colors. I lament over the lost EV range, but that is to be expected. My driving is predominantly < 17 miles round trip,. So, I achieve a high EV/GAS ratio. The new Volt is currently way better than anything Ford has right now. Maybe next year, the BOLT will be available. That will be a game changer. Bottom line: it is still awesome.
