Easy E85 breakeven price formula
Try this formula:
E85 breakeven price = E85 mpg × Gasoline price ÷ Gasoline mpg
This can also be used for any other ethanol blend!

Re: Easy E85 breakeven price formula
As a rule of thumb, you are going to come out ahead cost wise if E85 is more than 25% cheaper.
In Nebraska last week, E85 was $2.529 and E10 was $3.899 and gas was $3.999.
I don't think you need to do the math on that one!
The E10 was only 2.5% cheaper, and you lose more than 2.5% MPG, making E10 the worst to buy, from a cost perspective.
I always point out that ethanol makes any gas you use cleaner burning.
You just use more of it.
Is one ton of cleaner emissions worth more than 0.75 ton of more harmful air???
( just an example, but something to think about )
