RED Contest Entrees

Post your entrees here for the first official GreenHybrid community contest.

User gallery

We love our cars. So lets take pictures of them and share them with everyone else! Who doesn't love to show off their latest modifcation, or whatever. I predict lots of pictures of high mpg readouts. :)

Possibility

How about a true one-stop "marketplace" where sponsors could list their products, the community could "rate" products.

I realize a lot of hybrid owners aren't "pimping their rides", but as time goes on and more types of hybrids are available, people may want to enhance them.

Plus, this could drive even more sponsor demand in the long run for a self-sustaining site.

tbaleno 03-18-2005 01:38 PM

Chat room ;) I've said it before and I'll say it again.

How 'bout a section with the newest laws and regulations concerning Hybrids (i.e. tax credits, links, HOV status) for those interested in buying a Hybrid...or perhaps a Tips & Tricks section - but I guess that might fall under the "Learn" section...

hawkGT647 03-20-2005 05:59 AM

After reading many posts to this site and other hybrid sites, it seems there is a need for an area that will take all the environmental and conservation issues into account, beyond just motor vehicles.

Give people somewhere to go to share information and ideas about all forms of conservation, at home and at work. Make it a place to get everyone to stop and think about changes that can make a difference.

Regards,

"Garage Sale." Everything hybrid, from cars to parts, wanted and for sale.

EricGo 03-21-2005 04:24 PM

Area name: ALT

Sub Catergories
Enviro Politics
Emerging Technologies that may improve hybrids, or are of interest to hybrid owners
----Battery
----Windmills
----Diesel
----Fuel Cells
Auto Mods
-----Just plain cool
-----That improve FE
Conservation

Jason 03-21-2005 06:43 PM

I don't want to really comment on the entrees so far, but Eric, why "ALT?"

EricGo 03-22-2005 07:56 AM

Hey Jason, if there was any doubt you are a lot younger than me, it is now dispelled :)

I think I know it from the Usenet newsgroups. The original core focus was on computer related topics, but when people wanted to talk about something peripheral or unrelated, they started an alt.*.* group.

Tadashi 03-22-2005 03:14 PM

I guess the only thing yet to be mentioned is a How To section (maint, modifications, etc) for those adventurous types that are brave enough to dismantle their new hybrid (or would that be in the Learn also?)

tbaleno 03-22-2005 08:42 PM

Paypal link so people could support the site without buying stuff from the store.

That..and a chat room.....

HEHEHE I crack my self up.

Read the footer on every page :D

Photo gallery

Some place that photos can be posted and then linked into messages. i.e. I just posted some info about adding audio converters to a Honda Civic and was limited to 5 photo in each message. If there was a gallery set up so that each user had X amount of space for photos (and maybee limits to the file size as well) we could place all the photos there and then link to 'um in messages.

A photo gallery could also be used to show off the users awsome Hybrids.

tbaleno 03-23-2005 02:38 PM

Go to http://www.7thgencivic.com it might be nice to do something like that.

coz6 03-23-2005 07:28 PM

I would love to see a mobile place where you can easily access your Gas Tank and other stats while you are actually filling up, such as a device like a Treo.

Jason 03-23-2005 08:36 PM

tbaleno, what do you mean? Like the portal?

I think this is the same thing I had suggested, isn't it?

Jason 03-24-2005 05:22 AM

Seems so, yes. mppkll, if you'd like to expand on your entry to make it different, by all means. gbl102 has suggested the photo gallery.

Chris 03-27-2005 05:27 PM

How about we use vBadvances Gallery.

How about this...a garage where we can take pictures of our hybrids and put down any type of moidification or what really makes them different. This would entail alot of what a photogallery is...but a little something different. Put down engine specs and blah blah. More importantly...its free from vB.org
here is a basic example of something I never got to finish up

Ah, Yep. Sorry, I did'nt see your post! :embarass: The only thing I would say to add is the ability to link to the photos within messages on other threads.

I like coz6 suggestion of a WAP gateway as well.

no problem!

tbaleno 03-28-2005 08:33 AM

Hey, I notice some other vb boards have a reputation system. How about that.

Jason 03-28-2005 09:24 AM

I can enable the reputation system with the current software. The hard part would be setting it up so that people actually know what it is and how to use it. Perhaps I'll look into that soon.

Thanks for the great suggetions. Keep them coming! I do need to mention, however, that gbl102's image gallery idea is pretty much a catch-all for any such system. Unless you can come up with an idea that's much different than that, it'll have to count as gbl's entry.

The Hybrid Games

You could do games, like award users points (Who's line is it anyway style) for various tasks (funny or not) like:

Best decorated holiday Hybrid

Best gas milage on a single tank

Best pick-up line referencing your Hybrid

ect.

New tasks each week to keep things interesting and a running total or leader board of user points to show who is in the lead.

Set it up so that registered users could suggest new tasks and vote once on the current entries.

tdmsu 03-29-2005 06:46 AM

How about a section to organize people to convince the gov't to extend/improve the hybrid tax incentive? Something like a place to sign petitions, email reps, etc. This could be adapted to inspire political action on a variety of topics.

How about a place to calculate how much environmental benefit has been gained from your particular hybrid?

How about an interactive game to help newbies learn to drive their hybrids? They could pick their model, then the Macromedia (or whatever) could show a cockpit and allow the player to "drive." The simulation could illustrate the tradeoffs associated with different driving styles, different fuels (ethanol), weather, etc.

How about organizing a group discount for insurance, or other things?

The Red section should be used as a Interstate construction zone warning forum. For instance. On I-75 in TN at the 142 mile post or so, the roadway has essentially collapsed down the side of the mountain causing southbound traffic to be routed to the northbound side and constricted to one lane. Backups have been well over ten miles at times lasting as long as four hours. ( News caster hype probably). With summer travelling coming up, forumites could find information on possible backups and suggested bypasses. This could save hypermilers precious drops of fuel as well as time.

Jeff

BTW, great sight. Wish I had stumbled onto it sooner.

Jason 03-31-2005 03:15 PM

Thank you for all the great entrees. I will announce the winning idea tomorrow.

Jason 03-31-2005 04:14 PM

Actually, I won't just be announcing the winning idea. I'll be releasing it.

Jason 03-31-2005 09:04 PM

Congratulations to gbl102, winner of our contest. He will recieve a $100.00 gas card. He will be contacted shortly to discuss his prize.
