Well I knew someone would post this. Yes, for pure acceleration from a stop the 47 limit is true - if you have the time to wait to achieve that speed in traffic. But when I am going 65 mph and the gas engine is off - as indicated by the dashboard indicator as well as the sound (no engine) and the EV meter is showing ELECTRIC power being consumed - as in a clear indication the battery is being drained as I drive and the meter shows electric use - I am driving in electric mode at highway speed. I can snap a picture of the dash in this condition if that is needed to prove to you this is happening.

Again, 'fluttering' the gas pedal is your friend.

And I can't wait to see this thread explode! with people repling to this!
I gota say the stuff I've read from Fords site said "all electric driving" is only available up to 47 mph. But hey I don't own one... so what have I learned. U can't believe everything U read on the net.

Let the posting start!

That is absolutely the issue: all electric driving. After 47mph, it's electric assist, of course.

That electric drain is due to the ICE not charging and the accessories still draining the battery pack like if one were using the AC. If I am driving faster than 47 mph and I slip it into N it will show the EV drain in the dash. This is NOT the same as 47mph and slower EV DRIVING. In fact I can feel the car surge ever so slightly when coasting and dropping below 47 mph as it transitions out of ICE mode and into EV mode. This is most noticeable when coming down a mountain road where the speeds transition often.

This is a first generation FEH with Fuel Cut at 49 mph:

One might confuse this with total electric mode at highway speeds.
