Re: 2010 Honda Insight Review article
Thank you for your reply. I wish I would have gotten the 55.9 MPG. Perhaps when it gets a little mileage on it, it will improve. Did you also use air and cruise 100% of the time I'm sure that cuts down own the MPG, but it was necessary to use both, for me anyhow.
My insight w/navigation was $21.7K, out the door cash difference, with a 2000 Buick LeSaber 4 Dr. with 87K on it and slight body damage in trade. I was comfortable with the deal considering the extras- leather, 8 yr/100,000 mile bumper to bumper extended warranty, Insight rubber floor mats. rear bumper applique and door edge film.
Like you, the less than luxurious, interior does not bother me in the least. This car is meant for utility not impressing folks with its beauty

I didn't use cruise control since the LX version doesn't have it, ha ha. I very rarely use AC. I also keep track of the speedo backlight. I never let it stay dark blue and I only let it turn teal when climbing hills. I keep it green at all other times.
I had origin been shopping for a Fit, but I'd have been crazy to turn down an Insight priced at $17,588.

FATAL FLAW!
The Insight LX is comparable to the Prius II, and I would have bought the Insight LX, but for one thing: Cruise Control, or lack thereof. There's about $3000 difference between the Insight LX and the Prius II, but I consider cruise control an absolute necessity. The put me in the EX, compared to the Prius II. The price difference between them was about $600, and the Prius in general is a more refined vehicle.
For $3000, I could have overlooked the smaller backseat, slightly less comfortable seats, OPTIONAL floormats and smaller cargo space. For $600, I couldn't.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Honda hater. I own a 2007 Civic LX Hybrid. It has cruise control...

Interesting... Got mine with all the bells and whistles for around 19K... Of course that was with the cash for clunkers $4500 discount... Guess I could have applied it to the top of the line Prius, but it would have been well over 20K.
Nahhhh...
Nahhhh...

When you are driving long distances, and picked up alot of speeding tickets for your lead foot, you learn to appreciate cruise control. Since I started making myself use cruise control, no tickets in the last 5 years. Prior to that, 2 a year. Do you have any idea what that does to your insurance rates, let alone the cost of the tickets?
If it costs me 1-2 mpg, I can live with that.

Seeing http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...ule-the-roost/ made me think of this thread.
Prius liftback and Prius Aqua (aka Prius c here in the US) are #1 and 2 in Japan for July. Insight's not in the top 45. Raw data at http://www.jada.or.jp/contents/data/ranking/index.php.
For the July 2012 in the US, Prius family amounted to 16,643 units (http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...164628326.html). Breakdown at http://www.hybridcars.com/news/july-...ard-49476.html.
All Honda hybrids combined amounted to 1330 units per http://www.honda.com/newsandviews/ar...spx?id=6788-en.
To followup, the Prius is Japan's selling car for 11 months in a row now per http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Toyota...&asset=&ccode=.
Someone else posted the top selling cars in Japan at http://www.jada.or.jp/contents/data/ranking/index.php. Since I can't read Japanese, Babelfish's horrible translation at http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate...rUrl=Translate seems to show the Insight has fallen to 25th place for March 2010 in Japan.
