Like tbaleno and Shiloh etc., I listen to the oldies and classic rock station on the radio. I also have CDs, generally Beatles (should come as quite a shocker to you all, I'm sure) with some classical mixed in and a few showtunes, and I'm not ashamed to say it.
Why should you be ashamed of what brings pleasure to your ears? The beatles have songs that are most reconized around the world. Sure I'm not a fan of them but it doesn't mean I don't know what they've done for the music buisness. I have friends who are into rock and rap and they educate me whatever they can on why they like their music. I think its pretty interesting since I have theories of you are what you listen to (as along with many different theories!), but now I know classic rock ain't dead

actually it'll be awhile before any genre dies, many new ones are created this second! To their own taste, enjoy it until it becomes memory for you.

btw i might as well put in the artists I like to listen to:

nah you guys don't know them Since I barely know your artists!

Did you watch the PBS special last night with Paul McCartney in concert at the Abbey Road recording studio? I bet those people had to pay big bucks to get get a ticket. I'm not really a Beatles fan, but that looked pretty fun.

Consider yourself fortunate. Here in Sacramento CA, there are no longer any oldies stations that play anything from the 50s or 60s. The closest station we have plays 70s music, and does not go back further than that.

It's a depressing thought that you are so old that even the 'oldies' station is too 'new'. :-/

Chuck,

I know what you mean. Where are Gieselle MacKensie and Snooky Lanson when we need them?

When I said I wasn't ashamed, I meant the showtunes, not the Beatles. People give showtunes a bad rap but generally know more of them than they realize. But whatever- not ashamed of the Beatles, either.

Shiloh- I missed the PBS special, but I bet it was great. I have actually been to Abbey Road, although I didn't get to see the inside of the studio. It's kind of a funny place to visit and be touristy- you see the crosswalk where the cover shot from the Abbey Road album was taken (you know, the classic picture with the four Beatles going across the street in a row, lots of conspiracy theories involve that picture, highly amusing) and it's right in front of the Abbey Road recording studio. The street looks the same as it did in the 60s (except for the old fashioned cars parked along it) but there are people with tables camped out at the corner selling t-shirts and a constant trickle of people dawdling across the crosswalk and trying to take each other's picture in the middle of the street, risking life and limb as traffic goes whizzing by at high speeds. I wasn't there very long (on a Friday afternoon) but there must have been 8 people doing the same thing I was in the span of about 15-20 minutes. So I can imagine the demand for tickets to get inside for an actual Paul McCartney concert there! Boggles the mind.

These are the CD's in my car that I listen to when not tuned to XM:

Doves, Some Cities
Radiohead, Hail to the Thief, OK Computer
Sigur Ros, Takki
Arcade Fire, Funeral
Jens Lekman, Oh Your so Silent Jens
Sufjan Stevens, Illinois
Ambulance Ltd, Ambulance EP
Death Cab for Cutie, Plans (the wife's)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Howl
Animal Collective

What's with all of the Kraftwerk listeners? Seems like there is a Kraftwerk resurgence out there for some reason. I've tried but it always reminds me of the old SNL Sprockets skit.
