Default Dude, your Dell is on fire

WOW, so this is the reason they don't put Lithiums in hybrid vehicles?

Seriously, gasoline is more dangerous.

There are a few black boxes moderating the voltage and fans to avoid explosions with hybrid battery packs...

Fernando,

There are 'safe' lithium cells. The ones in your (and my) laptop aren't. By the way, my Dell replacement battery arrives today.

How does one find out if a battery is affected by this recall? I searched around their website and it wasn't exactly obvious, assuming they are even that far along in the process.

First, assuming that you're using Windows XP, click on the charging icon (bottom right of your screen), Then check the 'see details' button and then click on the battery icon for more details. If your battery is a Sony you need to go to the special Dell website:

https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/

and follow the instructions (you can also go there to confirm that you don't have the problem).

I already have my replacement as I was one of the earliest to request the replacement (made by Sanyo, not Sony). About 20% of the Dell batteries sold between april 2004 and now have Sony Lion cells and need replacement (4.1 million of them). My wife's identical Inspiron came with a Sanyo battery so it didn't need to be replaced.

I know, I know, the intent of my quote was to be humorous.
But for sure some uninformed journalist will pick up this image and make an ASSERTION that hybrids are dangerous.

Yes, and I was trying to be funny as well by alluding to someone recently that was attempting to say battery manufacture generates LOTS OF CO2, etc....

It's right on their home page at the bottom:
