08 mariner hybrid no start

not familiar with hybrid/ev vehicles, vehicle sat over 6 mo, not sure prior history, at this time , new 12v batt, crank approx 2 sec v_pack = 329v, bsoc 0%, frp 46psi,spark verified,rpm667,tried jump start button= no light, codes bcm p0a7d,pcm koeo p1397,koec p1a10,tcm= pass, after inital crank, no crank, stop safely now,etc..
Is there any other diag short of replacing HVBatt?
is there another way to recharge batt ?
If batt voltage = 329v isnt that sufficient voltage to start vehicle or is state of charge being too low causing issue?

Hi there, I'm not sure how to help but maybe these two videos may help you out:

Good luck!

Jump start not present on '08 MMH. Discontinued sometime in the 2007 MY.

Re: 08 mariner hybrid no start

I bought my 09 FEH from public auction. It sat for a really long time prior to the agencies decision to sell it. It wouldn't start and the 12 volt battery was dead. I put in a new 12 volt battery and took the hybrid battery out of the 09 and put it in my 08 with the jump button... thinking i would have a recharged battery in no time. It didnt work, the newer hybrid batteries dont have the internal recharge capability. I placed the battery from my 07 in the 09 to make sure it was just a battery and the car ran and drove great so 350 for the used battery and I was in business. I did have the option to take the original battery to ford for a recharge but there was no guarantee the old battery was good any way so i elected to just replace it.

Juggie,

The step up transformer (jump start charger) is housed in the battery on the driver's side.

Do you have 3? 07, 08 and 09, or is the '08 a typo? Would have sworn jump starters were removed sometime in the '07 MY.

Highly likely the old battery was good. I've resurrected 3X of these things that were left sitting for months. One was an 09 MMH with only 64K miles on it. Sat for 6 mo and the battery was at about 250V. The dealership charged them $1000 in diags and allegedly used the Ford charger to get it going again, but they were incompetent.

You can build your own "jump charger" for <$100, open the pack, and tie into the main relay to charge it yourself.

EDIT: if your '07 battery goes bad, I'd look at swapping the jump starter and electronics over to the '09 pack... :)

Re: 08 mariner hybrid no start

I have actually had 8 FEH's the oldest was an 06 and the newest was a 10. Love these cars! All my family drove them. I only have three left in the family, and an 08 parts car in the barn( first one we ever bought that the youngest daughter wrecked) . I would love to make a home made charger and have all the parts to do it, but I am not that sure of my ability and the directions I could find on my own to do it werent very clear to me. I usually buy them at auction with dead hybrid batteries and get them cheap, but they arent as prevalent as they were 6 years ago.

Ah, so can you confirm exactly when the jump start was removed?

Anyway, if you understand that opening, tempering with or modifying a FEH/MMH battery has a risk of fatality, here's what you need to build a rudimentary charger:

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/709-LPC100-350
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/709-APC35-350

Wire the inputs in parallel (both fed from the same 110V source)

Wire the outputs in series to get UP TO 386V of 350mA current

Install fuse holder in one of the AC input lines. Install a suitable 6x30 250VAC 2A fuse in holder.

Install a diode in the positive output lead with the stripe on the battery side

Remove battery.

Remove forward cover.

Remove computer.

Remove Relay.

Remove black plastic shroud from relay (attached)

Attach your leads to the terminals circled (attached)

Thanks for all who replied, got it started, disconnected 12v batt cables and pcm. reconnected and jumpstart button started working, charged HVbatt.
