26 mpg?

my MMH has been getting around 26mpg....is this ok? my battery was loose (12v) at negative terminal....so i guess car has to relearn itself. its been about 2 weeks since then. i havent driven it much either....probably about 40 miles or so. will it take longer for the car to relearn my driving habits? it seemed like the mpg was going up today....by about .1 or so when in electric mode. Maybe a scanguage will be more precise? i wish i knew why they say on stickers that a car will get 33 mpg and most of the time the consumer NEVER gets that number.

Drive your vehicle 500 miles or more and report back with more details. 40 miles of driving is insufficient.

YMMV... This expression exist for a reason...

The sticker mpg is meant to represent how a vehicle performed on a standardized driving routine and generally can be used when comparing similar types of vehicles/models.

How you drive, where your drive, and how much/fast you drive will effect your MPG in any vehicle. If you're not getting the MPG you expect then you should start by looking at your answers to variables above. Specifically, the FEH has proven to be well capable of meeting (and EXCEEDING) the sticker MPG.

no cold climate. live in virginia. i feather the gas pedal 7 out of 10 times. i do think that i should drive around 500 miles and then report back. the computer probably has to relearn. thanks for responses!

I have a 2010 4x4 Escape Hybrid. I average about 31 with mixed driving. I dont try hard, but I do not jack rabbit either.

I love it.

My (12V) batt died a few weeks ago, I didn't know to do the re-learn process, my tanks have been ~28; but I attribuate that to the fact it's been 100+ for the last several weeks too. I go for pass comfort vs mpg in these conditions (Ie more econ off driving) and now school starting, more ideling waiting for the kids.

Check air filters, tire pressure, gas stations (e10 vs non-e10 can be a 10-20% hit), and I guess just some time/miles to re-learn.

26 mpg isn't unreasonable. That's probably about what we've gotten out of the life of our '06 MMH to date. That's 160k+ miles. We don't baby it and aren't shy with the a/c. My philosophy is that the point of a hybrid is that the car is supposed to do some of that hypermiling stuff for you. Anyway, not to get into a debate. I would say this car is more sensitive to how you drive the car than many other cars I've driven.

Re: 26 mpg?

It isn't out of the question. I have two of the 06 model MMH, both 4wd, and both are over 110k already. Actually, I think one is approaching 120k. We typically get about 28mpg out of them both, and yes, the creature comforts are more important than 1mpg for dripping in sweat. The A/C is never off unless the outside temp is below 70. In South Florida... That is a rare occasion.

Not everyone drives 10k miles a year. My family of 4 drivers EACH racks up over 25k a year consistently. We had a brand-new 94 Chrysler Town and Country minivan (still have it actually) that killed the 3/36 warranty in 14 months. It has 220k on it right now.

There is a friend of my father who drives for a living to customer locations (I have no clue what he does) but he racks up an AVERAGE of 1200 miles a week. He was thinking about a hybrid too, I suggested a VW diesel for the longevity.
