Re: Fuel Injector Shut-Off

I totally 100% think the Nav uses MORE info to figure MPG than the SG.
Probably the dash ( message center ) does also, for people without Nav.
The Ford factory equipment is more sophisticated and has data the SG does not. I feel the factory equipment is better than the SG.

The SG is a "one size fits all" generic piece of equipment. I have never felt it was 100% reliable.

Stan- I am saying the fuel cut in the 2007 is true.
I am also saying the closed loop display at the same time is false.
Just like my SG showing 366 RPM in EV mode is false.

I am also saying Ron should ignore this and more forward, since it, while not perfect, will still be an improvement.
For MOST driving, open loop, with engine hot, will = fuel cut.

Fuel Cut Caught on Film

Here's an example of Fuel Cut Mode:

https://www.greenhybrid.com/share/fi.../5/FuelCut.JPG

I was coasting down a mountain at highway speeds ( 55 MPH ).
The FEH was OPEN LOOP.
The Throttle Position Sensor was 17.
The water temp was 146'F and cooling ( also indicating no fuel used ).
Old ScanGauge was showing 83.3 MPG ( which was in error ).
New ScanGaugeIIxG was showing 0.0 Horsepower ( which was correct ).
New ScanGaugeIIxG was showing 67.4% battery SOC and climbing.
New ScanGaugeIIxG was showing the HV battery was allowing 12.0 amps in.
The HV battery voltage as you can see was 340 vDC.

So after a ~ 40 mile climb and a ~40 mile decent of the Rockies, the new SGIIxG said my ~80 mile trip was 0.8 MPG higher as it counted the fuel cut sections as 9999 MPG and the old SG counted it as 83.3 MPG for example.

P.S. I like the buttons on the old SG MUCH better. They "click" and they glow at night. The new ones are soft, no click, and don't glow at night. :(

Re: Fuel Injector Shut-Off

In the previous post ( #134 ) I used "Low" at the top of the hill for a few seconds to get the open loop and all fuel cut off. Then, to avoid excessive slowing, I shifted back to D and coasted at a pretty constant speed. Shifting back to D does not turn any fuel back on in all my tests.

So there was not the "engine spin up" effect at the point in the photo, but there was the first few seconds. -John
