"Recall" on 2005 - 2007 FEH and 2006 - 2007 MMH

I had my car in the service department on Monday. Look at the bottom of my bill and there is a battery inspection documented. Code number 22FOZGBATT?

Note the letter says dealer will install a "Service Harness" in the HVTB. This harness likely bypasses the faulty resistor (love it when they proofread their copy) and performs the required function in its place with the help of the new firmware.
Also this is NOT a recall. A recall is a federally-mandated action...this is a company-initiated program...intended to prevent enough accidents that the feds might order a recall.

Billy, I'm going to guess they had a look at the 12v battery under the hood.

I think Ford's poor wording can yield both interpretations equally.

I normally don't post to these forums, but when I saw this (after doing some research on the Ford "customer satisfaction program 07B48") I felt I had to post my experience. I have a 2005 Escape Hybrid, and this happened to me. I was driving at about 55mph down a country route when I heard a chime and a little red light came on that said "Stop Safely Now". And instead of letting me go to the next turn off and "stop safely", the car decided to turn off, right there and then, going 55mph. I coasted to a stop along the side of the road, and the car wouldn't let me start it up again. I was so mad (it was night time), I asked the dealership if they had had any other instances of this (reply was no). I've also had two other issues (regarding engine overheat) with the vehicle since this happened about 1-1/2 years ago. I just figured I got a lemon until I read about this program. I suppose the "overheat mechanism satisfaction program" letter will be in the mail next....

Ah, you think that the installing of the service harness is a separate step, and not directly related to the reprogramming. I had read it the other way, that the service harness is used to preform the service of reprogramming some controller, and then removed.
I think Ford's poor wording can yield both interpretations equally.

With this reading, aren't the same battery packs still in use for 08? I thought, aside from the exterior makeover, the powertrain was the same except for a few "minor" software enhancements. Maybe one of these enhancements is this resistor issue? Guess I'll find out in a year or 2 if/when I get a letter

Walt, I'm with Steve's thinking on the wording. They will install a service module (I imagine a plug/box that goes inline to the battery somewhere) and then re-program the vehicle's computer.

I took my FEH in this morning and the service order reads "07B48 SERVICE HARNESS INSTALLATION". I don't have the my FEH back yet but I'll ask what exactly was done when I pick it up the afternoon.

I Agree. This is what most other auto companies would call a "Voluntary Recall". I guess Ford did not want to use the R word.
