The Explorer and Expedition have 4 wheel disc brakes and AdvanceTrac with RSC.

From what I've gathered, I don't think there was an technical reason for the move from rear disc to drum on the FEH. I suspect it was a purely financial decision based on increasing the common parts.

GaryG has located some recent documents that state the 2009 FEH has rear disc brakes.

This is a shot in the dark, but...

You don't suppose that Ford went to drum brakes to increase the weight down low and thereby reduce the FEH/MMH's propensity for rollover...??

That would certainly co-inside with the rumor that it was done to "aid" RSC.

Don't think any weight difference would be enough AND... I think the discs weigh MORE.

If anything... its cost. Its just cheaper and when you are in trouble you cut costs like a mad fool. Is the difference between discs/drums likely to change someones mind in buying the vehicle? Well for you and me probably, but for the average user who just walks in the showroom? Marketing/Accounting will think they just don't give a **** (in their opinion the only people who would pay attention are high performance sports card nuts, etc.) soooooo... off they go to shave a buck.

Rumors are a dime a dozen.

Can we get the URL or see the info? That would be good news.

While this disussion has been fun to watch, let's just wait and see when they are on the road, now shall we?

This is like a case of a movie shot with two endings to avoid media "leaks".
In an effort to create excitement, you'll never know until it debuts in a theater ( showroom ) near you!

Oh, an AOL Auto site. This is from the 2009 MMH ordering guide:

"Front disc-rear drum braking system on Hybrid "
