Well, August is historically a slow news month, and today's "journalists," having egos the size of Jupiter, need to see their blatherings in print at least every other day in order to feel important. :P

The old Air Force 1 was a Boeing 707 or 727, I believe. The latest one wasn't put in to service until 1999 or 2000, I think. I actually saw a Discovery Channel special about presidential vehicles and they described the old AF1 to the newest one. They said they couldn't go into detail about all the improvements on the new one, but they really do fit quite a lot more good stuff in the 747. Trust me, compared to the 9000 other flights that take place every day, AF1 is little more than a different blip on the radar screen.

Air Force One was indeed a 707, but only until 1990,

at which point the Boeing 747 was already 28 years old and technologically outdated. Of course AFO is souped up inside, but emissions and fuel consumption remains the same as the 1962 model.

And if you really believed that one vehicle is just a "blip on the radar" and utterly worthless in doing some good towards fixing the problem, may I ask why you drive your car the way you do or post on sites like these? Seems from your attitude you'd have given up a long ago.

I never said one vehicle was a blip on the radar, I said Air Force One is a blip on the radar. We very literally only have one POTUS. I feel that hybrids, clean diesel, alternative fuels, and hypermileage driving techniques are all VERY worth the effort for the other 300,000,000 of us, but being president isn't a growth industry. There can be only one!
