Re: 09 HyHoe

It is indeed a 6.2 ... Black Bear tune coming up. :D

And just not snow/ice storm can stop me modding ... within the first 24hrs:

http://gallery.me.com/soulsea/100127...13271924610001

- Escalade 3rd
- Escalade tail lights (G5)
- Escalade D pillar appliques
- CK375 22s migrated from the HyHoe
- Weathertech everywhere
- Chrome front GMC badge
- Delete red rear GMC badge and place chrome replacement above license plate
- Denali lettering where the old red GMC badge was
- Chrome tow hooks
- Philips H13 9008 X-treme bulbs
- LED reverse bulbs

That's all for today. :)

Monday I'll get my Escalade mirrors put in and that will be it for a little while.

Btw, I put the Denali 20s on the HyHoe with blank caps and I'm actually surprised how good they look:

Re: 09 HyHoe

Okay so the esky mirrors are on ... I also put back the oem red GMC emblems in the front and rear ... the chrome ones got lost in the grille and tailgate, and especially the rear one now complements the red esky tails and third perfectly imo.

http://gallery.me.com/soulsea/100127...13274263350001

I think that's going to be it for a little as far as mods on the Denali.

The HyHoe is at the dealer getting serviced ... she'll go on sale once I get her back.

Since the Yukon is everything BUT fuel efficient I won't bore anyone with her story here ... but if it's okay I'll loiter around happy to be of assistance to any members who may require it. :)

Cheers!

Wow Serge, Im in love with your nali! Mods look great so far. :D

Re: 09 HyHoe

Just a small update on my tahoe...

I went ahead and bought a new set of 22" Esky Platinum rep rims. Will probably run nitto 420 or toyo proxy tires.

Also got upper & lower Grillcraft stainless steel inserts like you had. (Are these an easy install?)

Lastly, i picked up a pair of those stick on lower chrome covers for the side mirrors. For $26, i'll give them a try.

Serge I would really appreciate your opinion on which center caps I should run on the platinum rims.
These are the only 2 I found that have a chevy bowtie...

1) Looks great with the white center that matches my white truck...unfortunately the chevy bowtie is backwards (confirmed with seller)...not sure how noticeable in person?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVROLET-22...item27c23f1017

2) Simpler, does the chevy bowtie look too Nintendo-ish?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170766852893...84.m1497.l2649

I'm disappointed there aren't more options for chevy 22 center caps.

Hey bud,

Okay first of all that inverted bowtie would trigger OCD induced panic, night tremors, and spastic bladder outbreaks in me ... it would be a terrible thing. :)

The second one looks like someone stuck a cheap decal.

I believe you can find these caps which fit both the the premium and platinum reps: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVROLET-CH...#ht_6683wt_891

The grilles are pretty easy to get on there once you remove the bumper.

These are my old ones I sold to bjeremi on TYF, he also bought my colormatched lower valance, and plast-dipped his front bowtie and grille surround: http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum...3&postcount=27

https://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/...1&d=1327940996

I think it looks great ... and you could shoot him a pm to ask him how he installed the grille. I had someone else put mine on and take it off so I don't know first hand the install details.

HyHoe 01-29-2012 09:59 PM

Re: 09 HyHoe

Yeah, here's the other version of that cap for the other esky 22 rep: http://www.ebay.com/itm/22-Inch-Chro...#ht_6450wt_891

Re: 09 HyHoe

Thanks for the input...
Yeah I saw those caps when i was searching, the bowtie is too big imo. It looks like the seller stuck the front bowtie off a chevy Aveo on a blank center cap and called it a day....not my style

I went ahead and bought both of them since I'm made of money. ;) I think I'll make a better decision when they are on the truck...

Who did you get to install the grille for you?

Thanks

Oh, by now I'm best buddies with the guys at my dealership's body shop. I stop by when I have a few bits to put on or take off, tip 'em a couple of 20s, and they hook me up.

That whole rear swap on the Denali with the tails, appliques, 3rd, badging, and the wheel swap from the HyHoe to, were done in an hour over their lunch break. I also bring them cookies and donuts ... I really do. :)

09tahoehybrid 01-29-2012 10:27 PM

Re: 09 HyHoe

Ha...that amazing, no idea if i'll have such luck at my dealer. I PM'ed bjeremi, hopefully he has good news for me.

I think the second center caps will look right, the bowtie is about the size as the one on the stock hybrid 18's.

The tahoe should look better after the wheels/tires and grille. Cant really think of any other exterior mods to do.

Thanks Serge.

Re: 09 HyHoe

Anyone know the exact parts required to do a 'big 3' upgrade?

It's for my Denali but I imagine it's the same for the Hybrids, although they do not need it. The Denali however has 80s syndrome and every time I use a current heavy feature like the power assist steps or the power seats, I get the stupid split second dimming of my headlights. I've been told the big 3 thingie will help.

But I don't know the specifics so I'm looking, if possible, for a ready kit with the right three cables and connectors.

Thanks.

ETA: The dimming doesn't actually bother me that much, but I'm about to undertake a headlight retrofit, and although the ballasts will provide a constant 12V current to the projectors, the ballasts themselves can fail if current to them falls below the 9V threshold ... hence my desire for the upgrade.

And an ebony and ivory shoutout to GM ... :)

Hey Serge, both trucks look great. Even with most of the goodies off, the Tahoe has a slick aggressive look. :shade:

Interestingly, I have a colleague who has been talking to me about the big 3 fix. He used a kit from Elemental designs. However his denali is a 2006 NBS one, not sure if that changes anything.

He says it works perfectly, though admittedly I really don't know how the big 3 kit fixes the problem, is it just bigger gauge wire?

Here a link I found for the eD kit:

Re: 09 HyHoe

Thanks bud ... both on the compliment and the linkie. :)

It's actually interesting ... for all the mods that went into the HyHoe, the ones that are most striking are the chrome rims (22s at first now the Denali 20s) and the dual tips. Honestly, someone could do those two things alone and dramatically change/improve the look of their Hybrid.

Re: 09 HyHoe

Serge quick question, did u put spacers on your rear wheels when the tahoe was on 22's?

HyHoe 02-07-2012 08:41 PM

Re: 09 HyHoe

Yup ... 5/8 of an inch custom fabricated billet aluminum spacer that just slid between the wheel and the hub so that the existing oem lug nuts for oem 22s could still be used.

What difference did the spacers make?

HyHoe 02-07-2012 09:11 PM

Re: 09 HyHoe

They made each rear wheel stick out 5/8 of an inch outwards.

It's just an aesthetic thing in order to make the rear wheels line up closer to the edge of the quarter panel arches. The bodies on these trucks seem to widen from front to back ... so whereas a 22x9 wheel with 285/45/22 tires are almost flush with the edge of the front fenders, without spacers in the rear they tuck in quite a bit. The 5/8 spacer remedies this to some degree making the whole thing visually more symmetrical.

-------------

ETA: People also use these to clear big brake kits (brembo/wilwood) if their wheel offset/spokes doen't clear the calipers.

09tahoehybrid 02-07-2012 09:26 PM

Re: 09 HyHoe

Wow awesome info, I had no idea the rear wheels tucked. Anything I should look out for when choosing a 5/8 spacer? Material etc.
Are the ones with the studs built on needed? Yours are custom, so no link right?

HyHoe 02-07-2012 09:38 PM

Re: 09 HyHoe

I'll take a pic of them and post it.

Tbh I don't know if they make 6 lug 5/8 spacers for sale 'off the shelf' for our trucks. The friend who gave these to me was using them on his custom RCSB Silvy and had them fabricated for it. The key for these is that they are small enough that they don't need fasteners. Meaning that most 1"+ spacers bolt onto the hub and the wheels bolt onto the spacer ... this one is small enough to slide in between the wheel and the hub using the existing bolts.

Hopefully that all makes sense. :)

It makes perfect sense, thanks to your great explanation. :D

You are right, no off the shelf, can be custom made for an average of $100 for the pair. If I get them custom made should I still get 5/8 or do you think a different size is better. Also why don't I hear more about spacers? Do the denali/esky with 22's from the factory tuck too? How noticeable is it?
Sorry to bombard you with all these questions, but just when I thought I had everything on the Tahoe figured out ...lol

HyHoe 02-08-2012 07:32 AM

Re: 09 HyHoe

Spacers are usually discouraged for a couple of reasons ... adding an additional part between the wheel and the hub is adding something that the manufacturer did not account for. For example in an awd vehicle, anything beyond a certain % difference between the rotation of the front and rear drives will mess with the transaxle differential, trigger stabilitrak cel, and light up the dash like a xmas tree. Furthermore most spacers are of poor quality and can fail in these large trucks, and their fastening mechanisms don't always have good integrity. Usually the same effect can be achieved by simply having different offsets between the front and rear wheels without adding an additional part at a critical spot on the vehicle.

However, a 5/8 slide in quality aluminum billet spacer is really too small to be of concern in the above regards even in an awd vehicle, and much less so on a 4wd. I ran mine on the HyHoe for 6 months with my oem 22s without issues and you wouldn't know it was there unless someone told you.

And yeah, any rim up to 22" is going to tuck a little in the rear relative to the front ... the quarter panel just flares out slightly more in the rear. When I had 24s on her with 295/35/24 tires the rear was flush and the front went slightly beyond the fender edge.

Never mind. I found the post in the TahoeYukon forum where you sold it. Damhik!!

Hi CT,

Yeah sorry I sold it a while back ... didn't even get to list it for sale cause so many folks contacted me privately, so I sold it to the first person in line.

However, there are a couple of places that one can buy an off the shelf retro ready to install. One place is http://blackflamecustoms.com/product...eadlights-p-94 and also a fellow member on tahoeyukonforum just started building and selling similar setups: http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=38270

Hope that helps a little. :)

Re: 09 HyHoe

Okay so I'm not going to do a thread on my Denali mods ... it seems somewhat out of place in this forum as it is pretty much the least fuel efficient vehicle in the US. :)

But in couple of weeks I'm about to do a new headlight retrofit on it, one that could be done on Yukon hybrids, and since my last retro provided a lot of interest, I'll just post some info here if anyone cares to read it.

So this is the plan:

Main Housings:

- RX-350 Bi-Xenon projectors
- RX-350 oem lenses custom polished clear
- Gatling shrouds
- DL-50 'fatboy' bulbs
- Al Bosch Ballasts potted and custom boosted to 55W max - 50W constant, with custom monster heatsinks
- Custom harness

- 3157 amber led bulb park/ts
- 194 amber led bulb

Existing Fogs:

- Converted to DRL with high power 5202 5000K led bulb

New fogs in tow hook gaps:

- Hella Micro DE HID Xenon projectors
- Hella D2S 4300K bulbs
- Hella 35W Ballasts
- Hella harness

This is what all that looks like before the install:

The 2500s have a 6.0 already in them ... I'm sure you got a spare hybrid battery in a drawer somewhere you can just bolt on.

Or you can take off the Hummer 8 lugs and put back the stockers for better mpg :D

Re: 09 HyHoe

Hello boys and girls, long time no see. :)

Currently driving a Black Ice 12 Esky Premium AWD, non hybrid obviously ... I had a quick question unrelated to the GMT900 trucks, in case someone knows and because there isn't yet a sub-forum for it.

We recently moved to Miami and I'm planning on keeping this Escalade for another year or two, until the next gen is about 6-8 months in and all the initial recalls have been remedied. I find myself driving a lot more down here than I did back in DC, so I want to buy a Chevy Spark EV to scoot around town during the day. The thing is that currently they are only available in Cali and Oregon, so I have questions three:

1. Is a Cali or Oregon dealer allowed to sell me the vehicle there, and ship it to me in Florida where I will be registering it?

2. Will Florida dealerships be able and willing to service it, or will they not have gotten the proper training for it yet?

3. Failing importing one from the West coast, does anyone know when they will be made available for sale nationwide?

Again, apologies for posting these questions in this thread, I knew not where else to post.

Cheers!

Well, I'm going to try and contact a California dealer next week and see what they say.

Btw E, might be a good idea to ask the bosses to create a Spark EV sub-forum in the GM section ... these things are already being sold and it'd be nice to have a place for discussion.

Cheers!

Hi there,

I registered a while back but haven't had the time to post yet ... so I thought I'd remedy this sin and begin by introducing myself and telling you a little about my truck.

I live in DC and bought my 09 Tahoe Hybrid back in Dec. 2010 with 12xxx miles on her. Ever since then I've gone on a journey of tweaking and modifications to personalize it to my taste. It's been a huge learning curve to decipher what can and cannot be done with these trucks ... she is as we speak very close to what I want/like. Much if not all of what I've learned and implemented comes through my interaction at tahoeyukonforum.com where I go by the username soulsea.

Anyhoot, here's the story so far.

First thing I did after I bought her is put 24" Enkei Ikei-6 rims with Hankook Ventus 295/35/22s, installed a Belltech 2-3/4 drop kit, installed Grillcraft upper/lower mesh, and swapped for black Chevy bowties.

Without drop:
http://files.abovetopsecret.com/imag...e9542bf4d2.jpg

With drop:
http://files.abovetopsecret.com/imag...e0924a2b9d.jpg

Well, although that is still my favorite look to date, it only lasted about a month. The Hybrids already sit about an inch lower than regular Tahoes ... the tiny sidewall, heavy rims, and state of DC streets made her ride like a donkey. Basically way too stiff and uncomfortable for a daily driver.

So I decided to go in a different direction and aim for a more elegant oem look.
The drop and 24s got sold and I added the following:

- OEM CK375 wheel/tire package that comes standard with the Denali Hybrid.
- LTZ chrome door handles
- LTZ door side moldings
- OEM Tubular oval chrome running boards
- Escalade/Denali rear bumper cover (to be installed next week)
- Escalade mirrors (to be installed next week)
- Smoked third brake light
- Lightly tinted tail lights
- Resonator delete and added tips

http://gallery.me.com/soulsea/100056...13127467060001

http://gallery.me.com/soulsea/100056...13127468700001

Than the real fun started ...

- Installed the only known xenon quad retrofit on a Tahoe Hybrid:

VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWsDhdnb-70

http://gallery.me.com/soulsea/100056...13127427800001

- Also the two lower bulbs are double switchback leds and are both on as drls and turn signals during the day and signals only at night.
- Reverse bulb leds
- Licence plate leds
- Puddle leds
- Dome/Visor leds.

That is all for now. :)

There's also a few things that I tried and did not work but I'll get to those on another post.

But I wanted to note that I often read this forum to inform myself, and I am happy to share any information I have discovered along my journey should anyone have any questions.

Cheers for now!
