Second to third shift slow.

I test drove a 167,000 mile Tahoe Hybrid this weekend and noticed it has a slow 2-3 shift under heavy throttle. I was concerned the transmission might be worn, but have read somewhere that may be a characteristic of these. Any comments?
BTW, the truck drove great and didn't seem to have any other issues.

What model year? 2008s were slower than later years. It is not a conventional step-gear system.

It was an '08 Tahoe Hybrid.

Re: Second to third shift slow.

My 2009(built in 2008) has had the lazy second to third shift since it was new. The dealer told me since it's a CVT- Constant velocity transmission, it would behave much differently than a typical transmission, that does make sense.
I have found that if you lift the accelerator quickly when it hesitates and stab it again, it somehow circumvents the lazy shift, in fact the acceleration is quite impressive using this method. I was afraid that I had a defective transmission or I might damage it doing this but now I have 100K miles and still in tip top shape.
