UH OH! my yukon conked out! sort of...

I started my car remotely, and got in and put the key in. Went into drive and drove out of the parking lot I was in (on elec only) and to the first intersection stop. all the dash lites went on and the RPM dropped from auto stop to off. I put it in neutral and it was just dead --- no restart. I called onstar and put it in park with the flashers on...got road side assistance on the line then tried to start it agin this time in park and it fired right up.!?!?
I drove to a GMC dealer which was just a mile away and they immediately took it in and hooked it up to the computer (THANKS JERRY SEINER!) there were no codes so they looked for TSB's and found one with similar reports. It had to do with the engine being "confused" as it never really started or some such. anyway they updated my software while I was there and sent me on my way...now for the $64.00 question..will the hybrid start in neutral or does it have to be in PARK only? :P

Good to hear that the dealer took good care of you on such short notice. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you should be good with the software update.

I am 99.9% positive that it will only start in Park.

I thought everyone would find this info below interesting. It does not sound like what happened to Jet1, but I thought it was interesting:

#PIT4575B: (HYBRID) Vehicle Stalls When Shifted Out Of Park - keywords 2 2-mode rngine hp2 mode start stop two two-mode - (Feb 4, 2009)

Subject: (HYBRID) Vehicle Stalls When Shifted Out Of Park

Models: 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid
2008-2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid
2008-2009 GMC Yukon Hybrid
2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid
2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid
with Two-Mode Hybrid System (RPO HP2)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This PI was superceded to add the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado model. Please discard PIT4575A.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Some customers may state that the vehicle stalls after shifting out of park quickly after a key crank

Recommendation/Instructions:
This is a normal condition and no parts should be replaced to try and resolve this concern. The 2-Mode Hybrid requires a certain amount of engine run time (1-2 seconds) from initial key crank before moving the gear shift indicator out of park. Some customers may experience a stall condition that results from an immediate shift out of park prior to the engine reaching full operating RPM. If such a condition occurs, the transmission selector should be placed back in Park and the key should be cycled off. The engine can then be restarted, and after waiting approximately 1-2 seconds, a shift can be made without further engine operation interruption.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
