03 civic hybrid 5spd 135k

Hey guys thanks for any insight in advance. My car was just purchased and it is making a puttering noise when it sits idle. When I drive and push the clutch in the noise subsides. As I'm driving in first gear the puttering noise comes again.

Any help thanks.

It's probably the input shaft bearing in the transmission. It'll get louder the more miles you put on the car. I've got the same problem with mine.

I'd that the motor in the middle? What kind of cost is it to replace parts/ labor it's that loud noise under the air box too. Thanks

No, I said TRANSMISSION. You know, the thing that the shift lever is attached to? Could be anywhere from $1000 to $4000 depending on where you go.

Wow that is a major repair I'm really surprised that it's got this kind of an issue. Does anyone know if that's something that would be covered under the ten-year 150,000 mile warranty by Honda under California emissions or is that just for the battery pack?

Thank you for all the help I love these forums!!!

Most of that cost is labor, unfortunately.

I had the same problem and was lucky enough to find a shop in Johnstown, NY that installed a new bearing/seal kit for about $850. The transmission comes out like any other manual Civic.

NOTE: I did NOT replace the clutch at the same time, saving me a grand or so IIRC. The car still has the same clutch 100K later.
