2003 Honda Civic Hybrid CVT 100K Service?
 

Hi there.

Been looking for the best HCH forum for a while. Hope this is it.

Car just went out of warranty in February. At 93K miles now. I've read the manual and the recommended service, but want to know about real world experiences.

1.) How do I know when to replace the brakes pads? Should I automatically inspect them at 100K or wait until they feel mushy? Does this car take special brake pads because of the regenerative system?

2.) CVT Flush? Easy to DIY? What kind of oil (the kind that will make it run forever, not just what the manual says)?

3.) Is the valve adjustment thing mandatory to prevent problems (timing chain from breaking?) or just a tune-up sort of deal if the car feels sluggish?

I'm aware the exhaust will eventually have to be replaced for $1400 when the car stops passing emissions inspection and the batteries may go one day. Hopefully that's many more miles from now.

Just trying to get ahead of any of that, if I can.

I'm at 175,000 right now and here's my 2 cents.

Re:
1.) I don't think the regenerative braking has anything to do with the pads. I've had my front pads replaced once and the rear drums have not been touched.

2.) In my opinion CVT fluid changes are easier than oil changes. I change the CVT fluid at every other oil change. Use the fluid from Honda.

3.) I've never done the valves.

I've had my 03 HCH since day one and have never been asked to have it smog checked. I don't think they ever have to here in CA. I could be wrong. I've replaced the spark plugs a while back. (those **** plugs are expensive) Working on second IMA battery. OEM battery was replaced at 120,000 under warranty and I'm still averaging 48 to 51 mpg. :) Couldn't be happier.
