Los Angeles to Phoenix HCHII Run
Puttin' my 08 HCHII on the road tomorrow as my 8 year old son and I are travelin' to AZ to see the Dbacks vs Braves baseball game tomorrow afternoon at Chase Field. Then off to the Grand Canyon!
This is the first extended roadtrip for my Honda and I'm looking forward to it! So far, combined driving, the hybrid is averaging 48.6 mpg. Not bad for LA traffic. Just under 5000 miles since 4/27/08 delivery from Thousand Oaks Honda, 40% oil life. Anyone had any bad experiences with the I-10 CA to AZ desert route while driving your HCH's? More after this happening...peace to all!:) |

Make sure your tires are inflated properly, keep it at or below 65mph and you will get above 50mpg I would guess. Ive taken mine from Columbus Ohio to Chicago and back on one tank before. |
Re: Los Angeles to Phoenix HCHII Run
Air conditioning will be the major gas gobbler.
Try to avoid driving during the hottest part of the day 11 AM to 4 PM. |
Re: Los Angeles to Phoenix HCHII Run
i-10 in Arizona is posted at 75 mph limit.
Also, gas is 30-50 cents cheaper over the border at Blythe. But you got this message too late! |
Re: Los Angeles to Phoenix HCHII Run
2008 HCH II (fully loaded) early first extended road trip results:
Thanks for the feedback all! The early numbers: Los Angeles to Phoenix run (and then some, driving around Phoenix-shopping, etc.) Total miles: 616 (cruise control set to 55 miles per hour entire trip) Fill up: 10.3 gallons total (@ $3.79 a gallon in AZ!) What I could have done with the two remaining gallons, but I had to fill up before the Grand Canyon-I have my son, for cryin' out loud! Check my math as I'm on the road with a BlackBerry--59.8 mpg? (Personal best!) Road conditions were good as we left LA at 4:30am thinking traffic would be light once we got into the I-10 desert. Took a little longer at 55 mpg, but I'll take the awesome FE anyday! Great drive, great car! Lovin' it!!!!! More soon...:shade: |

Re: Los Angeles to Phoenix HCHII Run
We had the Climate Control set at 74. Tires were properly inflated before we hit the road. I was really impressed with the performance of the car on this highway trip! Temperature in Phoenix was 105. Still the car was flawless, and yes, we did get fuel in AZ!
My son and I passed along time by messing with the voice command/navigation. All good! |
