My MPG does not seem great -- 39.7 lifetime?

Folks,

Close to 7000 miles on the Civic Hybrid (2007 model with Nav). I have read the all the HM techniques and have been doing it. So -- 40 MPG is the best I am getting.

I am frankly disappointed -- the 6 year old Subaru Outback that this car replaced was clocking 27 and was much larger.

Should I bring it back to Honda for service?

What are other new owners getting out there?

Dobe

I am getting 44, but this is a new car with less than 500 miles on it.

There are so many factors that come into play when it comes to fuel economy. Terrain, speed, tire pressure, air temperature, trip length, are just a few that come to mind. If you use your a/c, that will immediatly take almost 10mpg right off the top.

The average in the database is 46 - 40 is not an unresonable nor bad. Why don't you post how and where you are driving.

If you have any concerns (it sounds like you do), have your car checked by Honda service just to be sure and to give you peace of mind!

FYI there was another new hybrid owner here who was getting in the 30s.
She took her hybrid into the dealer.
They said nothing was wrong.

She came to my house.
I drove her (in her car) on my commute route.
The hybrid got 62 MPG.
She was astonished.

Your low MPG is most likely your driving style.
Keep working at it.

The computer is notoriously low. you must hand calculate each tank to get a true picture

Not bad. Mine's around 35, without even trying ;)

39.7 lifetime? Not so bad

Because my wife gets to drive her Hybrid solo in the car pool lane here in California, she has to drive at 70-80 to keep from causing a bottleneck. Her current average is about 39.

If you have the luxury of being able to hypermill, then you can get the numbers up very easily, but in a congested freeway where the lanes are totally clogged or driving at hyperspeed, then your numbers are going to be in the high 30s low 40s.

I've reset the B odometer to track various speeds and stretches of road and that's roughly what my display shows when I'm doing 75 in the carpool lane, right around 39 or so.

I'm in Portland, OR and driving a 2007 HCH-2. Portland is kinda hilly and when it was colder here my MPG was pretty much 37.8 all the time and now with the slightly warmer weather the mileage is creeping up to 41.

Seems like it's very dependent on how many hills I have to traverse, the outside temp, if it's raining (as it always is here), and how much I'm sticking to HM techniques....

So the HCHII is notoriously low? The HCHI is notoriously high. I wonder if they changed it like that on purpose.
