New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
I finally ordered a Scangauge. Should be in the mail in two days.
I've read the manual (PDF) and have some questions: Where do folks mount the unit in the HCH II? Advanced setup options:

Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Hi Mike:
I mounted mine Directly in front of me at the start of the dash. In line with the main instruments. It comes with valcro for mounting. I had to really look for the female end to plug it in. It comes with good instructions on setting it up. I monitor LOD, Ignition, Water Temp. MPG. With the HCH it is good to keep lod below 50 and ign. over 30deg. Mine will go up to 38 deg. Great mpg here. H |
Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Recently I've been monitoring: Water temp, 12V battery voltage, MPH and GPM, but that was mostly to diagnose my 12V battery problems

Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Yes I still have the original 12v, so I check this on occasion. I also check my 12v weekly with a volt meter after sitting over night. I like to see 12.4 at least. H

I could ,but I don't understand how to send to the site. PM me your e-mail and I can do that. H

The forth read out I use for what ever basically. I also like to use the trip function when on trips. Keeps track of fuel used and total cost for trip. H

Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
I noticed my LOD is above 70 and IGN below 15 most of the time these days. Takes a lot of effort to even try to get to <50 and >30 on those lately, especially after the software updates

Pictured is my possible mounting unit position. The Velcro tape that comes with the tool will be applied to the face of the mounting unit. I have drilled a hole thru the removable panel directly under the HVAC controls to feed the wire from the OBD II connector to the unit in a hidden fashion (just like the wires for the satellite radio head are all hidden).... Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Thanks, now you know how to post pictures here as well!!! :)
Your units position is most logical. Info in your line of sight. My OCD will make me try my proposed set-up first, only because I can't look at that cable.....I'd end up drilling a hole in the dash so to feed the wire directly to the unit.....and I've already drilled enough holes in my dash for my heated seat buttons a few years ago..... |
Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
I did not want to drill. It is very handy directly in front of you especially when trying to stay in the Sham mode. Much less trouble watching it. You could mount it there and if the wire bugs you,you can easily move as no damage done! H

Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
"If the <50 and >30 numbers (engine load/ignition timing) are difficult to achieve, is it the new software itself, or a weak battery?"
I wish I knew, but my guess is both. When I do manage to stay in that zone- great mileage indeed .. |
Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Igor:
Probably the biggest reason would be tires. Are you rolling on LRR? Also air pressure must be 40lbs. 60lbs. Cold weather can also effect things. Car over loaded is another factor. I don't think it is the battery because when-ever you are in sham LOD 50 and below and IGN 28+36 you are not using regen. If you see regen then the ICE LOD is more than likely about 70 or 80. I was out last week on a 15 mile out and back trip same road, and manage 74+. Granted I was in no hurry! The key is to keep the load below 50. H |
Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Sham mode Unit arrived in mail today, going to spend afternoon setting up....wonder what codes, if any, I'll find. Show and tell at the dealer tomorrow (to demo my weak battery) whilst enroute to NAIAS in Detroit. When I do manage to stay in that zone- great mileage indeed Thanks guys, will keep you posted on initial results....... One last question regarding set-up: does the ICE have to actually be running for the ScanGauge to initialize, or is simply key on/engine off sufficient? Cheers Mike |
Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Hey Mike:
Sweet spot is Ign 28-37 degrees. LOD 50 and lower. H |
Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Oh and the SOC must be 50% and better. Full stat Off Charge gives best SHAM results. H

Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
Scangauge in place, about to run first drive with it.
Codes in memory found: C1555; C1500; P0001 and B0800. I cannot find these codes listed anywhere in my "2006 Civic hybrid Service manual" Any ideas? Thanks Mike |
Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
First drive and first tank re-fill with the ScanGauge.
Observations 1. When the key is "on" but engine is off, the unit thinks there is fuel being used 2. When under IMA propulsion only and Honda instrument shows 0L/100 km, unit thinks fuel is being used 3. Fuel under estimates fuel currently being used versus Honda instrument panel 4. Idle stop at an intersection, unit thinks fuel being used thus shows '9999' L/100 km. Under Advanced Setup Parameters, I thought to change the Fuel Cutoff Setting from factory default 24 to some other number (0-99). I have not because it does not make logical sense to me if I should increase from 24 or decrease from 24. The ScanGauge instruction book states "If ScanGauge improperly detects fuel cutoff, then you may see fuel economy being reported as 9999 MPG or 0.00 LHK." My issue seems that I cannot get it to read 0.00 LHK Experienced operating tips wanted/welcome. Thanks Cheers Mike |

Re: New ScanGauge in the mail: ideas for set-up wanted
I had 12 re-cals during a four hour drive from suburban Toronto to Detroit on 13 Jan 2012.
My ScanGauge logged a few new 'pending' codes as follows: P0004; P00A9; P074C; U1A66; U1B52; U3900; C24B5 and B36B6. Any ideas what some of these mean? Thanks Cheers Mike |
