Problems with seat comfort

Hi there,

I’m hoping you can help me here. I’d never been totally comfortable in the seats in the Honda civic, but considered them bearable. As they get more wear, they seem to feel even worse and have now started getting back pains from my long commute. I have tried a cushion, but seem to suffer from the same problem. I have tried moving the seat up/down/forward/back etc. but get the same pains. While I could do with losing 20lbs, I wouldn’t consider myself “supersized”. (large build, 6ft2, 235lbs).

So my questions:
  • Is anyone else suffering pain from these seats? It’s in my lower back/lumbar area. Could I just have a bad seat?
  • Has anyone reupholstered and does it make any difference to the seat comfort?
  • Can a reupholster “de-bucket” the seat and add better padding/lumbar support?
  • If yes, can you recommend anyone in the Bay Area?
Up until the last few weeks I used to really love driving this car, now I dread it. if anyone can give me any advice (preferably not: get a sheepskin cover) I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks

Colin M

I have the same issue. I bought a seat cover with a lumbar support at Walmart for about $20 and it seems to have helped.

Be careful with seat covers! Make sure they don't block the side air bags.

I have had a seat upholserer add cushion to a seat before with great success.

Ditto on the seat cover!! Only seat vests are safe!

Re: Problems with seat comfort

Good point! The one I got only covers the front surfaces, not the side of the seat. It does have an elastic that goes around the seat back which I will discontinue using as it would interfere with the side airbag.

Thanks for the tip!
