Recommendations for replacement tires

I will probably be replacing my HCH II tires within next 5K miles. Current crappy stock tires have 20K miles are just about done. I will be looking for a longer lasting, better handling, and quietier tire for my next set. Any recommendations?

Re: Recommendations for replacement tires

If you use Snow tires there are recommended summer Sumimotos that are LRR. Besides that we are still trying to learn what good replacement tires might be. So far LRR don't have great longevity and tires with better longevity will give you a hit in FE.

I think a new gen of LRR (and LRR marketing) is around the corner.

Try searching on "tires" here and calling a Tirerack specialist to see what their line on LRR is lately.

Good luck!

Go with Michelin Tires. Either Harmony or HydroEdge. Both are rated with great ride and comfort and have a 80,000 mile life. You may see a slight drop in MPG if that is important to you since they will not be LRR based like on your current Civic.

With Michelin you will be getting standard tires just like a non-hybrid based car.

I am going to switch to Michelins once these Bridgestones I have bite the dust.

Also, you may want to consider total gas savings verus replacment of tires every 25k miles.

I have the Sumimotos. They are an improvement over the OEM dunlops but are a 3 season tire. I have a dedicated set of winters (Blizzacks) as well. If you live an area where it doesn't snow then the Sumimotos are the way to go. IMO.

You will notice a marked improvement in the rain.

Whatever you do, JUST DON'T GO WITH THE ORIGINALS! Take whatever advice these guys give you on other options and I think you'll be much happier!

Well, for a balanced argument:

I have no problem with the stock tires. I have the Dunlops on one car and the Bridgestones on the other.

I don't believe we've found a great replacement yet, so the OE might be the best alternative.

No, I am still on my OEs.

I am sure the Sumi's are a good replacement tire.

I was just saying that the OE's aren't necessarily a "bad" replacement tire.

And, obviously, the Sumi's can't be a direct replacement b/c of their summer nature. I have yet to read about a good replacement all-season that lasts long and doesn't negatively affect FE.

If I had to replace tomorrow, the Sumi's would be on my short list (as I use Blizzaks). I hope to not have to worry about it for a few years.

Closing in on 20K on my Dunlops in less than a year and they still look and drive great. Glad I am not having the problems some here seem to experience.
