150 MPG ... Is this the max?

The max mpg I've achieved while driving down a 5 mile stretch is 150 mpg. Does anyone know if this is the max readout on the odometer? I hit 150 mpg about 2/3 of the way down this decline, so I'm guessing that 150 is the max read-out on the display. BTW, I filled up this morning...9.04 gal over 540 miles for 59.7 mpg.

Goodka,

Welcome to Green Hybrid. Sounds like you're doing great! I've never seen over 150 MPG on my read out. Have you put your mileage in the GH database? Good luck with your new car. :)

Yes, 150mpg is the max that the gauge will display. I once got that reading on a 1 mile downhill section of 30 mph road (resetting the display after I was up to speed). The car had already gone into EV mode and was using no gas.

150 is the max it will read, but I'm confident that it keeps track of mileage higher than that.

Maybe not. Maybe when we coast with zero fuel consumption it assumes we're getting 150 MPG, which would explain why everyone gets about 2MPG better by manual calculation than by the odometer.

Yes, I put it in the database, and will continue to do so with each fill-up.

I doubt it actually stores an MPG value at all. It probably just logs miles (odometer) and fuel that has been injected as a single value that accumulates. The average would be displayed by simply dividing these two values periodically, and I don't think the simple display can "understand" anything over 150, so any time the calculated average exceeds that, it simply shows 150.

What has usually been found with these things is that they are very precise, but somewhat inaccurate -- meaning they are off by some consistent amount. On the '03 years for example, they are about 10% optimistic. It should be possible to calibrate these however, then they would always be accurate.

The MAX that I've seen on my 1996 Jaguar XJ6 is 99 (wouldn't that be nice to see often!).

No. It doesn't assume 150MPG. See Double-Trinity's post.

His post begins with "I doubt...". He's guessing just like the rest of us.
