Ivory interior good or bad

Hi all,
I recently discovered this forum and have found a wealth of valuable info. I will be picking up my new 06 HCH w/Nav on Monday. Needless to say, I am a very excited camper. I thought I would have to wait months (especially for the NAV), but the dealer (Sport Honda) had a customer cancel at the last minute. The color is Galaxy Grey with an ivory interior. I read one thread about blue vs. ivory interiors and their pros and cons. I wonder if any of you with ivory interiors could comment on their looks and how they are holding up. Also, would it be wise to treat the seats with some sort of 3M fabric protector (I am assuming there is such a product for car interiors)? Thanks in advance. I will certainly post my experiences and mileage after getting the car.

I believe the Ivory is esthetically excellent. Regardless of the color, the interior fabric will get just as dirty; it's just that you can't see it on the darker color. I am sure Honda has taken the wear characteristics of the fabric into account. You will love the color coordination of the Ivory interior (mats, dash, door panels, etc.)

Re: Ivory interior good or bad

I strongly dislike ivory interior.
When it gets dirty, and it will, it looks terrible - especially the carpeting.

The gray will look much better much longer.

I don't understand Chukbug when s/he says:
"Regardless of the color, the interior fabric will get just as dirty; it's just that you can't see it on the darker color."

This sounds like something George Carlin would point out, or a Zen Koan, or something.

Like Duh!
That's the whole point of dark grey interior.
So is that supposed to be some kind of argument for getting Ivory?

I do not own a honda but I have the Ivory seats in my prius.. I wish I could have gotten a darker color.. The wife has the nak of spilling things on the seat.

The detail shop loves me as they have the tools to get it out and even though they treat the cloth with stain gaurd she still manages to spill stuff I cant get out and have to take to the detailers.....:(

The next car will have a darker color int....!

My Dad has the ivory interior in his '03, I've got the charcoal in my '05....

I recall when my Dad bought his car in '03, the salesman told us that they only made the Hybrids using light exterior and interior colors, so they would stay cooler and wouldn't tax the A/C system. In '04 Honda made the HCH available with darker exterior and interior colors. I'm not sure if the salesman was BSing us, but it made sense, having said that and having a magnesium HCH with the charcoal interior, I prefer the lighter ivory interior based on the fact that it's easier on the A/C in the summer.

Hi;

I don't have the Ivory Interior. However I do work at a dealership for the past 10-Yrs. When you pick up your HCH ll go by the Parts department and they should Stock the Treatment you need for the Interior. If not they will order it for you. ;)

HTH;

Terry

I have the two toned blue interior. I am not wild about the combination. However, I didn't have a choice in that I wanted the silver exterior.

Besides, I (and everyone that's in the car) it too busy looking at the two tiered dash and Nav system.

I have the dark blue, and would not choose the ivory interior if at all possible. Yes it looks lovely but don't see how it will stay lovely. As Kenny says your carpet will get the worst--think of what the winter rains and mud will do. Think about kids, and coffee spills. If scotchguard can protect all that, get it.

I hear this simple-minded viewpoint all the time...

Go get all-weather floormats, a can of ScotchGuard, a can of Resolve, and a coffee cup with a lid on it at Wal-Mart. Shouldn't cost you more than 30 bucks. I don't have kids, but if little kids are riding in the back seat, just put a towel back there.

If you are spilling coffee all over the place and having kids throwing up in the back seat, no color interior is going to save you from having your car look like inside of a dump truck.

=)

LOL, good point, If you have kids make them ride in the trunk... or convert the back seat area into vinyl or dont buy a new car until they are at least 6...
I have seen many a car where the Rocket Seat pasengers have ruined the car with the smell of milk, poop, dipers and vomit being soaked into the cloth seats (yuck).. The chief complaint heard by the husbands is the wife did not clean it up as its her car.. (sorry ladies)

I don't have kids either just 4 dogs ( don't have to worry about clothes school or college $$$ and can take a trip, buy a loaded Hybrid and just have the extra dough to do what we want its nice lol.

we just leave everything to the niece & nephew and the dogs),

Ok back to the topic just since the wife got the car she spills drinks with lids on the passenger seat I have scotch gaurded the seat will have to try the resolve stuff. The rear seat looks brand new! I guess one can invest in seat covers along with the all weather floor mats..

My 04 tundra looks like it just pulled off the show room floor.:D

The floor matts are my only complaint. My drivers side already is looking pretty worked after 3 months. I'm going to buy the all season matts next winter.

Get the black all season floor mats w/the ivory interior. The salesman ordered me the 'ivory' all seasons and within a week they were not ivory any more. I had the dealer switch them out for the black. Now no probs. :)

You know what they say.... once you go black u never go back...;)

Unless you are rough on the interior (i.e., spill things a lot), the ivory fabric should hold up well. I have ivory in my 1999 Accord, and it still looks great 7 years later (only detailed once). I also have ivory in my new 06 HCH and I have no worries.

Good advice. The first thing I did when I got mine was order a set of the all-weather floor mats, and get two black seat covers for the front (they're not fitted so they're easy to remove and clean, you can get them at solutions.com).

Re: Ivory interior good or bad

I have the ivory and I like it. Dark interiors get very hot in the summer - yes, I klnow they all do, but I think the lighter color helps. I agree with Jacky's suggestions - I got the rubber mats and have zero problems with the carpet (after 3 years). I have two young children that eat in the back too. I never Scotchgarded, but really nothing spills that I can't clean up (my coffee cup has a lid :-). Also remember, if you're spilling that much stuff in your car, no fabric color will protect you from the smell. Sometimes you've got to bust out the carpet cleaner or the Resolve no matter what the stain looks like.

I know this is OT but I have to ask - what mileage did you get in your MINI? I've toyed with the idea of getting one when my son needs my car, and I *thought* the mileage on it was decent. I can't find any FE numbers on their web site.

Tim,
I also sold a MINI Cooper S to get my HCH. Tracking my mileage in Automotive Wolf, I averaged 26.5 mpg over 4,000 miles. The MINI Cooper (not the S model) gets better mileage according to members' data on northamericanmotoring.com. By the way, I haven't looked back on the MINI once. The HCH (complete with ivory interior and sweet coco mats) is a gem.

27.5 mpg. The MINI has to be serviced at MINI dealers. Mine was 99 miles away. I was worried about it's reliability over time. They have a neer vertical windshield that chips easily from stones. 18,000 miles and one windshield replaced.:zip:

The light color is not so bad. I had the whole car scotchguarded, and so far, nothing has stained the the seats. Plus, the seats are far more comfy then the Prius II. :P

Thanks ScarGo and 50Plus - very interesting comments. I suppose the rest of the discussion is for another thread at another time - I'm a good 5 years from replacing my HCH anyway :-) I'm surprised by the numbers (high 20's) - I would have expected much better.

I have ivory interior. Got dealer installed leather that so far is working out nicely. Tried the ivory rubber floor mats but they showed too much dirt. Traded them in for black and so far i am happy.

Thanks scargo, my black all seasons arrived and look awesome in my ivory interior. The came just in time. I'd already started to wear a hole in the floor mat on the drivers side.
