One fewer hybrid with sticker on the road :(

This Monday my vehicle hydroplaned on a severe rainy day in OC and lost control in the carpool lane and then went nose first into the concrete center diver wall. The car eventually stopped rear into wall some distance away but in the emergency lane. I do now know if it hit anything between the first and last impact (the only two I remember). I also don't know my speed but I'm certain it wasn't any where near the speed limit as it was raining very hard and visibility was impaired. There was much traffic. There were not broken windows though, and airbag did deploy but I didn't impact it). The custom sunroof I had installed at time of purchase also did not have damage.

Yesterday I got call from the repair shop that paper was submitted to the insurance declaring a total loss :(

I am not injured in any way that I can tell (4 days later). I did have a slight hand injury but it went away the next day.

There were other cars involved but I don't know if I hit them or not. I was in the carpool lane when it started and ended. They were 6 lanes over. But, they collided after my first impact and before my last one. They had at least as much damage and drivers of them were removed in ambulances. I do not remember hitting anyone else. I didn't even see them until after they closed the freeway down and escorted me to the other side.

[Edit: I removed 2 pages of story]

Thanks,
Shawn

That sounds like a nite-mare? Could have been bad! What next? A new Insight, HCH 11 or a Prius? Hope your insurer treats you well. Hal

I was thinking about another used Civic Hybrid with stickers already applied. I might also picker up a used CNG with stickers. The thing is, I didn't use my stickers much until I recently moved. With stickers my commute is 11 minutes, and without it is 52 minutes on average. But it is not just the stickers, I really liked that car. I hate cars, too, but I liked that car. I was bummed when they said I won't be driving it again. I will also miss my sunroof. I know Hybrids don't come with sunroof's.

Thanks,
Shawn

Glad you are okay.

You may want to keep the car. Even if it's declared a total loss, you may have the option of fixing it and driving it with a salvage title.

Good luck.

Could you not remove the sticker with a heat gun and re-apply it? :omg:H

Sorry to hear of your ordeal, good to hear you are well and your Little Civic sacrificed it's life to protect you. Funny how some people can't understand how safe our cars are because they don't have tons of steel arround them.
I recall my ordeal as being sureal, when I stopped spinning the first thind I remember is looking up, seeing the head liner torn and wondering what was hanging down next to me (the side air bag) which, btw looks kinda like a pleated shade deflated:-).

if you replace your total loss with another car of the same type (even if it is newer) you can get the stickers replaced. Check with the DMV for clarification, but this is what I've heard from SEVERAL people.

Maybe you were joking, but I'm not sure if you've seen the HOV stickers. When they start to wear off, they read "void". I'm sure it would be difficult to transfer them. Also, the sticker number is printed on your registration, so they can verify that the stickers belong on the car. Plus it's illegal.
