Rear Drum Brakes
:lightbulb I'm still waiting for my car now it's will be next week. So I continued to study the design, the 2008 still has rear drum brakes. The last car I had with rear drums was an Audi 4000 in the 80's. Now with re-gen braking Honda must have determined that disk brakes cost more and therefore not needed, but disk brakes are about 40% less weight then drums. So should I plan on replacing the rear brakes along with LED lights, nitrogen air in the tires and 0 weight oil to increase my FE

Re: Rear Drum Brakes
Nah! You have to create a baseline first to see what the changes do for you. Only one I like of your list is the 0W20 (at the first oil change - no need to do it early). Best wishes...

Re: Rear Drum Brakes
Read up on nitrogen in your tires.... big scam.
http://www.straightdope.com/columns/070216.html http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/09/au...es/09MOTO.html http://blogs.consumerreports.org/car...nitrogen-.html By and large, the vast majority of sites out there singing the praises of nitrogen filled tires are trying to sell you the product/service. Air = 78% Nitrogen 21% Oxygen 1% other gases. |
Re: Rear Drum Brakes
If discs offered an efficiency advantage over drums on the rear, Honda would have used them.
I am not sure the weight difference is as much as you state. Anyway, the regenerative braking function does a lot of the mild work (through the front wheel, of course). |
Re: Rear Drum Brakes
I think Honda did that for safety. Do you think it will fit if you replace it with disk brakes?

Re: Rear Drum Brakes
The car has drum brakes on the rear for a couple of reasons:
Disk brakes are more prone to dragging than drum brakes. You have regenerative braking. Most of the braking force is needed on the front wheels. |
