7 speed paddle shifter?
I am somewhat of a loss. Why does nobody appear to mention
on the EX model the 7 speed paddle shifter that is mounted on the sterring wheel. Does this give better fuel economy, and/or lower rpm's at high speed? Just curious as there as been little or no mention of this first of a kind CVT transmission with paddle shifters. Alster |
Re: 7 speed paddle shifter?
(Shhh, it's supposed to be a secret.)
I believe the paddles are meant to give the illusion of control or added acceleration performance. They can raise RPMs, but I believe the CVT is already well-optimized for economy vs. acceleration at programmed RPMs. |
Re: 7 speed paddle shifter?
Not sure but I think Nissan has had a shift CVT for a couple years? Hal

Re: 7 speed paddle shifter?
audi had preprogrammed shift points in their cvt tranny. not a first. plus it's a joke. you might as well create the first 20 speed.

Re: 7 speed paddle shifter?
I got my new Insight last week and I've played around with the paddle shifters a little.
I don't find them to be very useful in normal driving conditions, but I can see how they might come in handy in the ice/snow. They also help to keep the speed down if you want to keep off the brakes going down a long steep hill. If you don't mind cranking the rpm's on your brand new ICE up to 5-6K! |
