Real world mileage - my first road trip...
Well just finished my first tank of gas on the Insight EX. Got 41 in mostly town driving behaving as well as I could. A/C on 100% of the time. I was fine with that.....
Just finished a 410 mile road trip from the DFW area to central Oklahoma. I had 3 boy scouts with me - and it was loaded with gear in the back. It was mid to high 90s. I filled up at a station while one of the other vehicles was getting a new tire. It was just below half a tank (showing). The pump clicked off just below 7 gallons. 368 miles. Hmmmm over 52 mpg (52.7) to be exact. That was all highway traffic varying from 50-70mph. I was thrilled. But the last 130 miles back - I noted a couple of things. Since I was not following the other vehicles I was driving a tad faster - really trying to hold 70mph. That is when I noticed the little Insight does NOT like 70mph and any hills. A/C on and hot 99-100F. When I would manually switch the A/C off - 70 was much easier. And anyone from TX OK you know when I say hills - I am saying small stuff. I can't imagine this in the mountain passes of Idaho - where I am from! I find myself wanting about 45mpg and about 10-15 more HP on my little new toy. Am I just relegated to 65mph? Mike |

by my calculations, 100 miles at 70=1:26, at 65=1:31, is it really worth 6 minutes on a 100 mile trip to reduce your mileage and push the car that hard ?

Again - I should not care. But to be honest it needs 10-15HP bump IMHO. :omg: Mike |

I agree with the HP increase. I can't see why Honda couldn't put the Civic Motor into the Insight. I have noticed that this car does not like humidity.. It chokes the car and robs it of any power.
When it is really hot outside, I don't even bother with trying to save gas. After running my car HARD all last week, I was able to get 41mpg out of it. |
