Waiting for my new Prius to arrive

Hi All!
Thank you so much for all of your great posts, it has helped me to decide to put down a deposit on a 2005 Prius. So, now I am re-reading lots of these posts with new vigor.
Here is a question for you all from a real newbie, I keep seeing the acronym P&G, which I found to be for Pulse & Glide, is that correct? What does pulse & Glide mean?
Thanks for any info, and I hope I will be posting again soon to say that my new prius has arrived.

Re: Waiting for my new Prius to arrive

Pulse and Glide is a technique that maximizes fuel economy by taking advantage of coasting. Basically you you medium acceleration to get the car up to speed (around 40 MPH) then take your foot off the gas pedal so the engine shuts off, then apply very light pressure on the pedal so that the car doesn't regenerate electricity, but also doesn't use electricity to move. This is the glide, and once you slow down again, you apply medium pressure on the pedal to get back up to speed again (pulse). It only works at lower speeds because at high speed wind resistance will slow you too quickly for it to be effective. The idea is to coast for several times the amount of time you spent accelerating, thus lowering the average amount of time the engine is on. This technique was used to take a Prius to the amazing 110 MPG tank record set this summer by a group of people on this board.
