Last week, Eva Håkansson, who's been hard at work building her KillaJoule high-speed electric motorcycle for the past couple of years, set the world land speed record for an electric-powered sidecar-inclusive motorcycle. The University of Denver graduate student in engineering roared to 216.5 miles per hour at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats and averaged 191.5 mph over a one-mile stretch. For you math geeks, that's fast enough to cover a mile (and knock out a bunch of bugs) in a tidy 18.8 seconds. And she's got the The 250-horsepower three-wheeled electric motorcycle uses a battery pack made by A123 Systems. The KillaJoule was just 2.5 mph short of the world-record 219 mph reached by an internal-combustion-engine sidecar motorcycle. Håkansson also set a Pikes Peak hillclimb speed records with her ElectroCat in 2010.
