2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid converted to PHEV (first one?)

3 Attachment(s)
Well I did it about 3 weeks ago and am still learning how to drive for best mileage.

Using the Enginer Gen 2 Prius 4KW kit. Had help from Daniel and Ryan at 3 Prong Power in Berkeley.

Here are 3 pics of the installation.
Tight fit of the kit in the trunk.
View of the heat exhaust tube going to air vent in trunk floorboard and power wires to the hybrid pack.
I found a convienent place in the cup/change holder to mount the switch.

I have been able to go some amazing distances (between 30 - 40 miles) at <40mph in EV mode, even with the heavier vehicle instead of the Prius. Remember seeing well over 50mpg on the Altima display for large distances. Don't know what the short trip mileage is yet. Have to go back to my Excel spreadsheet to figure out the trip mileages.

My first fillup after install was 877 miles and 20.839 gallons for 42.08 mpg average, which is 3+ miles over the best mpg that I ever had and 6 over the normal 36mpg. This was a combination of both freeway and local driving. I can put as much as 22.5 gallons in tank, so I expect to be able to break 1K miles on a single tank of gas... http://enginer.us/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif

Already had someone ask how I converted it.

The conversion took us about 10 hours to do the installation, which was easy but time consuming.

I hope to be getting more of the pictures of the install from Ryan and will attach them to the forum as I didn't feel like taking everything apart again.

Because I live in CA, $3500 including some help with installation because was a learning opportunity for my installers (including myself).
Also my numbers are hand calculated, not trip computer.

Well, here are some pictures of an official "Toyota Plug-in Hybrid" badge on my Nissan Altima Hybrid... Some purists might complain, but I have my reasons to put it on and it's mostly has to do with charging it at work.

For those of you that have a Prius and want to order the real thing from Toyota.

Be the first on your block to own one of these genuine Toyota PHEV badges.
PART NUMBER IS 75374-47070

You can order them.
I ordered mine from Toyota of Vallejo.
Here's their email parts@toyotavallejo.com

PRICE IS $39.80
FINAL PRICE INCLUDING SHIPPING WAS $50.64, but I am in California and had to pay tax also.
